Using Bartlein Barrels to do full custom build? Anyone done it?

Hey guys,

Talked to Bartlein Barrels and liked some of their recommendations and knowledge. Considering sending my components to them to have them put together the full setup. Anyone worked with them on a full build process and can share their experience/results?

Thanks in advance. Good luck out there this season!

Do they even do this? I know they’ll mate a barrel and true an action, but the rest?

Local gun shop owner has had bartlein rebarrel and true actions. He described their work as "professionals not in a hurry". Can't help you with complete build process questions.

I sent a receiver to them a few years ago and had them build me a barrel, thread, chamber and install it for a 22-250 Ackley with a 7 twist. I’m currently working up a load for 73 grain Absolute Hammers at 3700+ fps and 90 grain Gold Dot/Fusion bullets at 3500fps.

I’ve been hunting with it using 75 grain Swift Scirocco bullets and it slams whitetail and hogs.

At the time time my then 13 year old son was ringing 6” steel plates at 550 yards with boring regularity, and that was fireforming using plain old 55 grain M193 ball bullets.

I spoke with Mark yesterday and he brought it up that they do full builds. I was surprised too.

Awesome Good to know! I was surprised to hear they did full builds but glad it seems like what they put together for you is a tack driver!

I knew they did a few but dint' think they publized it. Brux will also, but I think basically just for some of us locals that walk in the door. Didn't think it was really anything they "want" to do as a business as they are swamped already

But it will be good

Mike, I’m seriously considering a .22-250AI build built around a Bartlein barrel (including having Bartlein mate the barrel and action) - which led me to this forum and this post. Would love to hear more about your build (action/contour/etc.)!

Thinking heavy varmit contour mated to a Remington 700 action... Leaning towards a fast twist like how you did, but uncertain… t

Basically a trued Remington 700 action, 26” Remington Varmint contour with 7 twist, fluted and a McMillan Remington Hunter stock.

I'm local to Bartlein and called them about having a barrel made. They said they do plenty of in-house gunsmithing and even showed me around and introduced me to people. Awesome group.

Awesome rifle! Anything you’d differently a second time around? Or are you happy with the contour and twist rate, for example? Also, do you mind if I ask how much they charged to mate and true the action back in the day?

I got a Bartlein barrel awhile
Back. They had some in stock. Having a gun smith put it on a tikka action. Gonna be 22-250

Thanks, it’s one of my favorite build based on a factory 700 action. It’s actually the only one I kept; I had a few.

I wouldn’t change anything as I built it with the intent of shooting 75 grain bullets, back before heavy and fast twist was cool.

It’s been over 10 years so I’m going to guess $650-$700 to true the receiver, make the barrel, thread, chamber and flute.

Just buy a custom action. Skip trueing a Remington, you'll retain better value out of a custom action and have a better product.
