On your TNA lower, with a metal trigger assembly - I wouldn’t dry fire trigger without upper installed with firing pin, if the bolt catch isn’t installed.

There’s nothing stopping a very fast moving hard piece of metal, besides this thin sliver of unsupported plastic…

Pretty sure it’s still plenty functional - I’m going to just cut down a piece of aluminum to fill the gap and use the roll pin to keep in place.

Given I already broke it - gave me license to start filing on mag well. I’m at 2.395” or so of COAL barely touching front of magwell, and still haven’t gone past the upper receiver. I’m thinking I can file everything to fit 2.4”.
Hey, at least you learned that lesson on a $45 lower.

I learned it with a $200 KAK 🤬

No one tells you to add 20% to your gun build budget for the things you’ll break by not reading every single post in this thread!

We need to build an ULUL Ten Commandments and add to the first post.
That's a good point. I think a lot of new UL-UL people come from the bolt rifle side so AR stuff is all totally new. A few AR specific details wouldn't hurt! FWIW, I wasn't an "AR guy" either.

A couple thin pieces of kydex and a dab of superglue can fill that gap good as new if you don't need to use the bolt catch.

For those with deep pockets and an affinity for traditional bolt-actions, here's an ultralight 700-pattern stock to snag. MPI stock are the lightest I'm aware of. I'd buy it myself but I'm child poor.

Got to grinding on a gun today. Was able to open up magwell to fit 2.38” easily. Have a plan to file all the way through the front of magwell, should get me 2.4”+. I’ll reinforce with some type of “C” channel epoxied on. That’s why I asked about epoxy compatible with these lowers.

Having said that, I’ll be taking this budget Frankenstein to the range this weekend hopefully.

50.00 TNA lower with a broken piece on bolt catch groove
30.00 blemished BCA upper
65.00 BCA side charging BCG
65.00 BCA pencil barrel
20.00 NFA LPK minus trigger
75.00 trigger can’t remember brand
20.00 A2 buffer tube
30.00 farrow tech butt
5.00 foam tube for cheek off amazon
70.00 knock off law folder

430.00 for a 60 ounce gun.

I’ll probably shoot a box or two through it with a scope known to hold zero, then put on the primary arms 5x microprism.

Maybe I’ll load up some long TMK’s and Lever to see what kind of speed I can get out of it.

Mind sharing a picture of your mag and your rifle? I may be modifying a mag in the near future, and I'm a lefty, so I've been debating going with the Solo which would feel similar to a left-handed bolt or going with a side charger on the right side to reload with my offhand.

For those with even deeper pockets. That mpi stock with a #1 contour 16” bbl, and a 16oz defiance Ti or Pierce Ti SA would make a cool rifle that weighs right around 3lbs bare.

Did you chop your bolt carrier group?
And does your bolt stay closed good when shooting?

I have not cut it down yet.

I have not removed the gas rings.

This will be my first trip to range without buffer spring this weekend.

I actually enjoyed having spring in there. Keep bolt in battery, and easy to chamber next round - just let go.

Will post results from range session

Figured that I'd give you all first shot at this:

New 9" Jag composites handguard for sale. I didn't have any luck finding the handgaurd by it's self for pricing, but from the looks of their website, $125 is a good starting bid. Comes with the 6 screws also, even though my Pic only shows 4. It's ready to use with a Jag composites nut, which I believe is the lightest option, and what helped me get under 3 pounds. I think this handgaurd is a great option if you want to run any accessories attached to the handgaurd, and it's one of the best looking ones on the market.
Silent auction, bid starts at $125, $5 increments please. I'll update this post if I get 2 competing top bids for transparency, and then ask for one final 'highest and best' bid.
Please message bids directly to me to not clutter up the thread. I'll close bidding Jan 5th in the afternoon. Free shipping to AK and lower 48.

This ain't it, chief
