I opened minor accounts for my two teenage boys at Vanguard so they can pick stocks and start investing, should set them up well for 40-50 years from now.
Given that, I’m letting them choose.
Starting off with $3k each.
AAPL, MSFT, ATVI (boys are gamers), AMZN are their leading choices.
So, what would you add?
AMD, Nivida, Sony

Other good options are BRK.B, Visa, Mastercard.

I bought ABT end of last month for my first stock ever, it has been good to me but I do worry things are going to dive again. I’m sitting on the rest of my money just not sure what to do. Not really interested in day trading

You going to sit on ABT? I own it too, earnings beat but pulling annual guidance has me worried long term. I have made 20% on my money, was planning on holding longer myself...but now I’m on the fence.

No idea, I don’t have a bunch since I’m just getting started trading. I had liked it because it seemed like they would do well with the tests coming out and also seemed like it had already been a good long term option before the crash.

I’m sorry I don’t know what your second sentence means, I need to do some more learning :)

I’m up 15% so far, had I jumped in when I thought I should I’d be doing better but still happy.

Just got into the market a couple weeks ago, ...took a $2k hit thinking airlines were going to rally up haha think again. Making it back on Netflix for now and shifted the airline cash into gold mines(short term) and utilities (long term). I assume people will still pay their power bill even if they stop paying their mortgage.

What is everyone's favorite Dividend stock? Mine personally is At&T. Almost a 7% dividend and the stock is pretty stable with some potential for growth.

BEP great management from Brookfield, lots of holdings for multiple renewable energy sources, solid dividend yield @ 4.8% considering it has more long term upside in my eyes than many of the real high dividend payers.

Dumped all my AMD and spoxf this am. Good profits on those. Bought back into UAL and upped my position on MRO. Might add to PCG today if it drops a bit more

Anyone else been watching LTRPB? Been all over the place the past few days. Too volatile for me but figured I would mention it up
Yes made $1800 on it this morning buying the dip and then selling when it went up. Was going to buy 100 shares yesterday at $17 then backed out then shot up to $102

Just wondering who's taking advantage of this little dip in the market to buy some stocks on sale?

I like cruise lines. Carnivals always a good company and the Oil companies are getting hit.

Amazon was the one to buy weeks ago when it floored at $1,600. Now being at $2,400, some folks made a nice chunk of change. My opinion is that now is a bad time to buy in general. You're better off building your cash reserves higher and figuring out how to invest in real estate in the coming months.

I am not seeing 14-16 anytime soon. I think it will drop, but I'm thinking 22ish is bottom

I'm thinking somewhere in between the speculation here. DOW around 19-20K. But rest assured the negative news will keep coming on and on and on. We could see historic lows--trader confidence could finally drain and the house built on sand collapses.
I'm watching the lows of 3/18 and 3/23....if we get within 10-15% of those on the high side I'll be adding major kwan to my existing holdings. I added some yesterday but will hold off for now.

Whatever happens this is a good time to get into the market for stocks that have a solid 5 year line. Patience isn't easy but it's required.

I agree with some of the comments above, I think this more of a dead cat bounce than anything. I think the Dow is going to fall back into the 14-16 range before this is all over. The only trade off is everything is so volatile right now it is moving a lot every day. I can get in and get out of stocks make my 2-3% and move on. There is money to be made just by looking at short term trends. As for long term I don’t think I would be in for the put it in and don’t look at it strategy quite yet
ya ive been just been doing cash contributions in my roth and waiting for now, i think another big dip is coming. kinda crazy though with this bounce my account is back up to mid feb levels (ty amzn)

I bought some ALLY today. They seem like a pretty solid company, price is down, and they have earnings 4/20. I don't know if earnings will help or hurt their stock price, but either way I think I'm holding them for the long haul. If their earnings are horrible and stock price goes down, I'll probably get more.

I'm also just about to pounce on some OXY, but I've been holding off and it's still slipping down today...

Watched it yesterday from when it was $18/share all the way up to $113. There was zero news when I searched, but found the reason in tripadviser's financials. Reverse stock split.

Yes made $1800 on it this morning buying the dip and then selling when it went up. Was going to buy 100 shares yesterday at $17 then backed out then shot up to $102

You're one of the lucky ones. I know a ton of people who were trying to get orders filled when it was low and rising (sub $30) and the volume was just too low to buy anything. Most of the trades were 1-5 shares. I also know a few guys who were trying to short it on their margin accounts when it was above 2000% on the day, but again, couldn't get orders. The bid/ask splits were insane. Pretty fun to watch.

I think if i had made any buys today I'd be scrambling to unload it all right now after hours. Make some money and wait until it all dips again tomorrow to buy back in. Bad headlines all day then one small report of a possible helpful covid treatment and the market spikes.

Hey Guys, been following along for the duration of the post. I’m very very green to all this. Been dabbling here and there, did really well with Boeing BA a couple weeks back. Need some advice though, bought 100 shares of MRNA at 30 and change, what the hell do I do with it now?? Thanks again. Best forum on the Web.
