Peak 44 Bastion Tikka Review

Mine just came today as well, ordered September 24th, so right at 2 months which is impressive. Fit and finish is very good, as the OP noted. My example weighed in at 23 oz on my scale. I don't have a Rokstock to compare it to, but I ike the ergos and feel so far. I've had many iterations of the top stock makers through the years and this one seems right up there with the best of them.

I'm definitely interseted in following the OPs results from non-bedded to bedded.

can anyone comment on the recoil pad for this?

Based on the shape there probably isn’t any aftermarket pads that would work if this one sucks.

Question to you bastion owners, how difficult will it be to add a Pic rail up front? Just use 10/32 hardware and screw it into existing sling stud holes?

Do these accept different bottom metals for the tikka stocks?

I believe the only option is the factory mag style. No CTR or other options listed on thier website, as of now.

@NSI, Interested to follow your tests/results. I replaced the FFT stock on my CA Ridgeline with the Bastion and it's been an incredible fix. Trigger reach 10x better, much more comfortable shooting prone, weight increase (with new bottom metal) was about 3.5oz over original.

Peak 44 is a Wyoming company producing carbon fiber rifle stocks. Their Blacktooth stock, featuring a swept grip, has been available for Tikkas. The more modern Bastion stock has not, until now. I handled the rem 700 pattern Bastion when a few Weatherby 307s came into my shop. I was impressed at first blush with the ergonomics and quality, and proceeded to badger P44's PM JD Ponciano for a full year re: getting out (and not effing up) a Tikka offering. It arrived this week while I was traveling, and I dropped an 18" .223 Tikka into it tonight for initial evaluation.

Why am I interested in another Tikka stock, when the Roktok exists?

1) Availability. This stock arrived 2 months after the order page went live. 90 day lead time is quoted. I wouldn't bet against that, given my experience. With the volumes they're producing for Weatherby, there's obviously some pretty serious capacity in the shop.

2) Lighter weight. Rokstoks are in the 29-32 oz range. This un-railed Bastion was a shade over 24 oz. I'm not holding my breath for the RS Lite, though I'm sure it will be lovely when it arrives. Until then, there's a place in the market for a properly designed stock of a weight which is still shootable but frees up some ounces.

3) Made in Wyoming.

4) GW Magnus-style ergos. That is - a more mild interpretation of the modern shooting concepts driving the RS. I'm not turned off by the shark fin, but I'm curious to see what design decisions drive the majority of the recoil-control heavy lifting mechanics.

Fit and finish was excellent, with no discernible slop in the provided recoil lug.

The action fit into the inlet easily, indicating plenty of room for bedding. That's a good thing, since when there's room for bedding, there tends to be ... an advantage to bedding. It goes without saying there's now duct tape covering the antiquated sling swivels. I did ask to have them deleted, but that wasn't able to be accommodated. Rifle as seen, with empty plastic mag and Scythe attached, weighed in at a paltry 8 pounds 6 ounces.

Test plan:
-10 round groups without bedding
-Hunter drills shot back to back with RS, in triplicate
-Swap to 6.5, .243, or .308 to compare recoil characteristics
-Bed to one of the above larger cartridge actions, note group size delta
-Shoot NRL hunter match

I’ve handled that stock a few times on Weatherby rifle. I really like it but I need an adjustable cheek piece, do you know if a version of this stock with an adjustable cheek piece is in the pipeline?

I do not.

What makes you say you "need" an adjustable cheek piece?

I ordered one of these from Redhawk for a Tikka...nice stock, but LOP is short. I'm measuring a 12.6" or so...too short for me, but otherwise a very nice stock...

I have a Bastion on my Weatherby, stock is 21oz. LOP is short I added a 1/2 limbsaver Airtech slip on which helps. Otherwise fit and finish and ergos are excellent. I also have a Tikka Rokstok. Yes the comb is high, perfect for prone, a little hard getting used to off hand shooting. Stock did tighten my groups up. Both are good stocks I like the Peak better but it’s also $250-$300 more.

Mine is still being repaired… it’s been a couple weeks now .

It looked short when I got it and if it’s 12.6 I’m going to get a refund. It’s advertised as 13.5.

If they fix the LOP and soften the pad it'd be a great stock...

The LOP on my tikka Bastion is 13.25". The trigger reach is 1.8". All in all, its a good fit for me, but may be a tad short for some.

Looks like Peak advertises LOP at 13.25" now...not sure if that's changed recently?
