To keep this 6UM shooting related, here’s two drop charts at our range at 1000’. One for a 16” 6UM shooting 115 NR DTACs at 3140fps and the other is one of our most common builds, a 24” 300 win mag, shooting 212 ELDXs at 2940fps.





The appeal of a shorter, lighter rifle with a fraction of the recoil and same lethality on big game at extended range, is a real thing.

Hey ryan do have a rough estimate on round count before you toast a barrel if you are not nasty with it? If you do, a capacity-to-bore ratio its a little better than a 28 Nosler. SO if I am really nice to it, I think I can get 800 rounds or better.

For half a century, the 100gr partition has taken a huge amount of game out west - other bullets come and go, but that bullet/cartridge combo is the Chevy pickup of easy to shoot rifles.

Hey ryan do have a rough estimate on round count before you toast a barrel if you are not nasty with it? If you do, a capacity-to-bore ratio its a little better than a 28 Nosler. SO if I am really nice to it, I think I can get 800 rounds or better.

It seems to be a combination of things. Primarily that the 6mm’s are shootable enough that most watch exactly where the bullet hits and can immediately place an extremely precise follow up shot. Also, most have been killed with one particular 6mm and that rifle is the most shootable rifle I have personally shot.

For me personally that is it. I watch the bullet strike, can read it and then correct and place the next in the upper CNS. Probably 3/4 of the elk I have killed with the 6XC has been one shot to the chest, then an immediate follow up to the high neck/head.

Is there a way to get details of this rifle? I figure if it’s the most shootable rifle that you’ve ever shot, even a schmuck like me might be able to shoot it well.

As light as you can. Thin barrels shoot great, that they don’t is a myth. I generally like a Tikka T3 lite contour as the balance well, but thinner is fine too.

Experiences with heavier profiled flutter barrels vs say a standard light contour you mentioned here? Any thing you’ve noticed between the 2 consistently…..aside from unnecessary cost would anything else away your preference

I want a standard, non fluted barrel. All that getting cute with a barrel can do is induce stress and increase the likelihood that it will have problems. Now, properly done fluting shouldn’t cause any issues and I have bunches of them, however there is no functional benefit to it.

Just a plain Jane, light contour barrel for hunting- preferably with a flare on the end for a suppressor.

Mid 6mm’s such as the 6CM with good bullets have zero issues way past 600 yards.

Not the person you asked, but most of us would recommend a 223 trainer. Ammo is cheaper and barrel life is much longer. I shoot my 6creed at the range minimally now; all of my shooting is the 223

Problem is I elk hunt in places where 243 is minimum. I'm thinking I'm going to do a 6 cm shooting 115 dtacs out of a 24 inch tube. It will be suppressed, so too long, but really want to be starting at 3000 or more. Would be awesome if I could get to 800 effectively.
