For half a century, the 100gr partition has taken a huge amount of game out west - other bullets come and go, but that bullet/cartridge combo is the Chevy pickup of easy to shoot rifles.

Anybody have any experience with the hornady 105 bthp or the 112 barnes match burner on game?

I just asked about the match burner in the 6 um thread and the response was they are violently explosive below 2900 fps

I run the hornady bthp in my tikka 243 @2850fps. Its cheap and accurate. Killed 5 or 6 deer with it so far. Have not nerded out on the damage they did. But they dont seem to be all that soft of a bullet.
Exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks!

Sounds like they will be out of the running in my 243 tikka then. Too bad, that .624 bc was looking pretty good...

I am a partition fan... unfortunately nosler has priced themselves out of my budget up here in Canada

The 112gr MatchBurner at 243win/6CM velocities on deer is just fine. Violent fragmentation. It’s on elk that I am not sure about yet. I’m not saying it isn’t great on elk, and in fact as long as they go in the chest first they’re fine.
I’m only two elk deep with them, and both were liver shots that had to get through some stomach first. In those two cases I preferred the deeper penetration of the DTAC. They also were close shots- 80’ish yards. Two is not enough to draw many conclusions.

Well I guess the match burners are back on the list again. I'm not likely to be shooting game much bigger than deer or black bear at much over 500 yds so they should be good for that. I was thinking the extra bc might help me playing at longer ranges just for practice. Thanks gentlemen!

So... my 8 twist 243 tikka came in this afternoon and I was doing a little measuring. Has anyone loaded the 112 match burners to fit the tikka medium mag? I measure it at 2.840" but the barnes data has them loaded at 2.850". I don't have any on hand yet so I can't see if they would end up with the ogive back in the case mouth.

What's the freebore like on the new factory 8" twist? Curious if its extended for the longer bullets, or standard CIP, etc

Get a long action mag and bolt stop. You’ll be all set

Have a few long action mags already... will have to try source a new bolt stop here in Canada when I have some time. Any Canadians out there have a good source for tikka parts?

Can anyone out there with the newest hornady loading manual tell me wether they have data for the 103 eld-x or 108 eld-m in the 243 win. I dont feel like buying a new book if it doesn't have the data I'm looking for anyways. I have the number 9 manual and figure I can probably get away with using 105 bthp/a max data for the 103 eld-x. Thanks

The standard 1:10 twist rate on a 243win might not be enough for 103/108 eld

Yes, but for the 108's, they recommend a 1:8 or faster barrel. The 103 data says 1:9 or better.
