Suppressor wait times

purchased Sandman-s through SilencerShop and I was notified by the ATF and my local FFL.

Anyone lucky enough to have a suppressor get out of jail recently? Wondering how long it took from the time the tax stamp check was cashed by good ole' Uncle Same to the date you got the call to pick it up. I have a TBAC Dominus in jail and the check was cashed on 4/28/21. I have a predator hunt in Texas planned in March and was really hoping to have it in time to take with me. Absolutely no reason for the process to take this long, but I'll save that discussion for another thread.

My first post to Rokslide. I purchased a Thunderbeast Ultra 7 on April 4, 2023. I received my email with stamp on October 12, 2023, went down to Scheels and filled out Scheels finishing paperwork and walked out with my suppressor. It took just over 6 months for a Form 4. I wasn’t expecting it until mid-January. This is not the fastest completion time but not bad. I’ve had SBR’s in as little as 4 months. Every NFA item that has come through in less than 6 months was reviewed by a woman. In my opinion they do better work than men. That’s just my experience after 13 NFA items since early 2000’s. Keep the faith.

I’d hit up the Reddit megathread and read through a bit of stuff. There’s plenty of people getting approved in short time frames as well. There’s a lot of discussion on there about who and how to email to actually get some real status updates beyond calling the atf and getting told it’s pending. Mine was delayed at fbi background check and I believe had I not emailed about it it’d still be in delayed status. I think most people say it’s worth sending some emails once you go beyond the average wait time. I hope yours goes much faster than mine did.

Just be glad you didn’t buy one at the tail end of the paper forms. My first one took 15 months and there were no delays or issues. It just took that long. My second one was like 8 months and my last one was just about 6 months.

Honestly my experience this year with two suppressors wasn’t awful. Together they averaged exactly 218 days, so just a smidge over 7 months. It’s still a long wait that shouldn’t remotely exist, but in my head I thought I’d be waiting a year.

It’s a thread that’s updated daily, despite its age. All good to vent on it!

Since I'm nearing the 20 month mark, who the heck would you reach out to? Lgs said to try calling ATF, but I've heard all over the place that ATF will only tell you they've got the paperwork and are working on it. My senator signed onto red flag laws despite her claims to be a supporter of 2a, so I don't have a whole lot of hope that she will help. Is there anyone I can call? I've purchased more than one firearm during this time, so I know the background check shouldn't be an issue....

Ask for an update providing them with your control number or suppressor serial and model, your name, and dealer you’re going through. You’ll have a chance of getting a meaningful response that you won’t get on the phone.

Do this. My suppressors were approved one week after I sent an inquiry to the above email address.

After 290 days and an email to the atf this morning, finally approved. Apparently my background check didn't submit properly which stalled my application. Now I'm kicking myself for not reaching out sooner. Oh well.

Some folks have commented on this thread that the emails are a waste of time and distracting to ATF/FBI/etc. But they do seem to help trigger the process moving on. Good for you for reaching out.

If you’re close to or past the current averages, send the emails. These organizations all work for us and should be pushed.

Edited to add being courteous in the emails seems to help.

The last 4 times I've emailed them (once I've reached the current "average-ish" wait time) I got approved later that day... just saying. 4 times in a row now.
