Scope adjustment lag

Right away I said if it doesn't hold zero I will get another.

I do not rezero every year.

I am not convinced I am shooting as good as I can, which creates flyers or bad shots.

I am not disagreeing with you guys. I am just not running out and buying a scope tomorrow. I got time.

It is not a personal slight if I have not bought a new scope, it hasn't even been a week. Don't get offended.

I get you don't like Leupold, and they suck

How are you testing to know that it holds zero?

Anything besides it just riding in the truck?

I'd seriously search the drop tests, try them even if only from 24".

Not that the scope is the only thing that can move zero, but it's a frequent culprit.

This is all stuff to keep you from being in a position a lot of us have been in. No matter what, you should test your gear, and you seem to be doing that, just there's some info around that helps you target things to show weak links.

@Zerk check all your stuff(action, bases, rings, etc) and make sure it's tightened to specs or just a touch over.
Shoot some 10 shot groups and post some pictures so we can see what you're seeing.

I believe that you are actually a good shooter and that the reason you're not convinced is because your rifle system has a weak link(scope and not your ability). That scope(most probable) is failing you, keeping you from having confidence with that rifle.

We want to try to help you and see you succeed man.

Shot 15 has X cause the rifle jumped, I must not have had it shoulder. Another of the bad shots, not to same degree, was way off target after recoil.
3 shots touching. This was last of loaded ammo yesterday

Zerk, I'm late to the party but had typed a response when the thread was only one page and then got distracted.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you are the weakest link right now. I'm not suggesting that the Leupo is fine, nor the mount, or load. I've seen my fair share of problems with Leupo but that doesn't mean all are bad nor the biggest contributor.

I think many would be overgunned with that rifle so simply buying a more robust scope may not make a meaningful difference. Something as simple as rest selection or parallax could be your problem but it's easy to assume that the optic is at fault.

In my experience, you really need to have your shooting skills sorted before you get into a light magnum. It takes time to gain relevant experience plus you need to minimize variables to learn a new system. Everything is suspect until proven otherwise. It's easy to blame equipment but I look at the shooter first.

My suggestion would be to let this thread die on the vine. Shoot a proven rifle system, ease back into this new rifle/scope/load, then report back with better educated questions in a new thread.

Good luck,

Jason

Never said it wasn't me. First magnum, other rifles 4570 and 3006. I think this kicks less with brake and recoil pad though.

Bought freedom scope to practice with 243.

I do think tracking is bad though

Zerk,
Are you willing to open your mind and forget EVERYTHING you’ve been led to believe and trust a leap of faith from internet strangers?

Please do. You found the correct forum. Your perils will be behind you and you can focus on what’s important.

What rifle is the .243?
If it happens to be a Tikka or a Sako, you might think about peddling that whole Christensen/Leupold rig, snag a SWFA or Trijicon for the .243 and use that.
There is a ton of great info on here from some real good dudes. Like PNWGATOR said you really have to go at it with an open mind. A lot of what has been shown to work good goes dead against what we thought we knew about rifles and scopes.
I’ve piggybacked info off these cats for awhile now and they haven’t lead me astray.
A guy can easily put together a very functional rifle for not a ton of expense and save yourself a lot of frustration.

pretty loud with that brake on there...?
I am shooting with reused ear plugs. Oddly not as loud or as much recoil as I expected .

My 30-06s don't even have rubber pads.

I don't hunt 243, it is savage. Not fan of either. Medium barrel. Going to use it for practice.

I can't afford new ear plugs after buying this scope

Nothing about this post makes any sense. Expecially the 243 part. I can understand reusing ear plugs long before I understood somebody that wasnt a fan of a 243
