I'll say Becca's a lot cuter at 150# then Luke ever will be at any weight.......just sayin', sorry Luke.......

Thanks Les, but besides how it looked, the worst part was being so out of shape. It felt like any amount of activity was hard, and I got winded from the slightest activity and it took forever to recover. My biggest motivator to get more active/maintain a healthy weight was to be able to go on mountain hunts and backpacking trips without huffing and puffing so bad I thought I was going to die... I think Luke would agree, we both got in better shape after these pics were taken because it wasn't a question of whether we were going to hike/hunt hard...it was a matter of how much it was going to suck while we were doing it.

it has been rough keeping the weight off since being home. But I have watched what I ate, man there is a lot of great food state side. But I have realized it isn't worth the feeling like crap and extra work to get rid of the bad stuff. I continued my workouts and this morning I was 183, so there is my story and flexed up pics.

and way to go Afteamroper, keep it up. Those sand box diets are hard on the soul, huh?

I think that weight loss and fitness should tie together somehow. I'm ok with my weight, I just want to be a mountain athlete and that's not easy. It takes a lot of dedication to DAILY activity.. Working in a cube farm, its really hard to make that time.

What are tips we can share that help us get that needed cardio or strength exercise in? I much prefer an activity over gym time, but in reality I can't do that every day.

My plan is to get it in my calendar and stick with it. I seem to make all the other meetings in my calendar, why not some "me meetings'? Maybe we could start a thread on favorite workouts or workout plan suggestions for various fitness levels?

Ryan / James, best of luck to you and thanks for being good sports and motivating the rest of us. I'm rooting for a tie!

Or we could bet so much a pound James and Ryan lose and then donate that money to the wounded warrior project or hunt of a lifetime
There is a 'plan' in the works to donate the $$$$ to a good cause. The details are still being worked out so stay tuned!

AFTEAMROPER, first off thanks for serving our country! Dude you look great very inspiring for sure, you have done a great job and should be proud, keep at it and keep it off!

BECCA/LUKE, you guys have done great as well, its amazing what 30lbs will do for our look and physical abilititys. You guys are rockstars in the mountains and thats what its all about!

LARRY, you have given some great advice I really like the weight yourself daily advice that is exactly what I need to do after sheding the pounds again. Makes complete sense and will keep the focus going!

Also to everyone else thanks for the Support for Both Ryan and I! I also want to add that if I do get lucky and win I will throw my cash winnings into whatever Tanya comes up with to donate the money to! I do truly hope we tie then Ryan and I can both throw the dough into a charitable contribution!!

I work in a cube farm, but am lucky that it is in a five story building. I wish it was a taller building. Years ago I used to work in a single story building cube farm with three resturants a stones throw away. Now there are over five at that area of mid town. I feel for the worker bees trapped between all that fried carb loaded slow death.

I make it a point to use restrooms on other floors. Lots of stair work for the basic mountain fitness. Last winter I made it a point to do stair work outs of three to five rounds each at a minimum of three times a day. This was on top of my heavy weight gym time in the basement just before lunch time three days a week - lots of thrusters with dumb bells. I developed mild IT band issues due to not stretching after the stair work outs. Stretching is one of my biggest fitness issues. I need more of it now that I am middle aged.

Now that my knee tendons and lumbar disks have recovered from my sheep hunt I need to get back into the same daily routine and build on that. I only lost 5 pounds while hunting, and that came back while sitting around waiting for my tendons and back to calm down.

I am not a clock watcher and have found that I need to use the reminder function in my email system calendar to pop up a notice on my monitor to GET UP! and walk every hour. Even if it is only one trip up and down the stairs and across the building and back to the cube it helps my work production. Spending a few minutes each hour walking and away from the cube/monitor increases my overall daily productivity. It deminishes the afternoon lags that slow everything down.

For work outs I am finding myself enjoying simple dumb bell work outs that are part of low impact crossfit. Thrusters are wonderful for some reason as are walking lunges. Deadlifts are very useful but I save those for the gym. I still hate push ups but my damaged left arm is not screaming at me as much. I hate planks, but they work very well for backpacking core strength. Now that the left arm is not whining as much I plan to start doing burbees at home during TV time. that should freek the dog out plenty.

Good luck to both of you.

Like Larry said...lifestyle changes get easier to maintain the longer you engage in them. I have been dieting and routinely working out for years.

2 yrs ago I really started paying better attn to how I worked out and what I did...it made a big difference on my 6'8" 240 frame.

I lost a lot of fat and felt much better...I have always worked out hard...but the last two years have taught me how, when, what to work and it's made a big difference in my overall fitness. I thought I was in good shape then...I am very fit now.

Good luck.

Excited for you guys! If a bet is what it takes to lose the wait then so be it. $500 bucks well spent in my opinion. Like others have mentioned, the real value is in keeping it off that counts! Good luck to both of you! I hope to see you both in the backcountry this fall!
