As the title states, it's the gun I'm looking at rebarreling. It's. 223 now, but sadly it's a 1/10 twist rate. I've thought of getting a new barrel with a faster twist rate, but have decided agasint doing a 22 cal in a bolt gun due to a state ill hunt with restrictions.

But, question is. Are these good foundations for a rebarrel/build? Thinking of either sticking a 6cm or 6arc barrel on it. Just curious if it would be worth the hassle? I'll eventually replace the heavy hoque stock on it, but figured this might be a build i do over time.

And no, I won't be during the barrel swap. Between listening to the s2h podcasts and researching the barrels on the howa, I won't have the patience.

I would sell that rifle and buy what you want. That bolt face isn’t going to be good for much other than 223, 300 Blk, 350 Legend, etc.

If you are a reloader, maybe rebarrel to 6x45mm. Otherwise rebarrel to 223 Rem with an 1:7 or 1:7.5” or 1:8 twist. If you don’t reload, just go 1:8” because most all 223 factory ammo uses overall cartridge lengths to accommodate ar-15 magazine dimensions.

This is the right answer. Sell it. And, I think Howa is a good base to build off.

Unless you’re building a .223ai, 6x45, 6mm max, and you reload, sell and start again.

Even selling the bolt and replacing, you won’t come out money ahead.

I have a soft spot for the Howa mini. No experience with the 1500’s
