I’d take a Tikka 1/8” twist 243 win over any factory 6cm currently.

Tape the muzzles when in the field. No, I/we do not clean the barrels. Wipe the bolt down, spray brake cleaner and flush the action is needed, relube the bolt and action, move on with life.

No, never disassemble just to check. Degrease, thread lock and torque. Then leave it alone.






There is a LOT of elk, moose, bear, deer, mountain goats, etc., shot in every conceivable position and impact location. Read the every page of the thread from the beginning- it is worth it.







The 243 win is functional identical to the 6cm. The simple answer is the less recoil the better.

To each their own but I will clean as normal and keep my kit and my gear in a high state of readiness.

Fouling a barrel is very different from a dirty barrel. Fouling is a great idea, especially after cleaning. A dirty barrel is full of reasons that affect accuracy and the integrity of the barrel - a really dirty barrel may even affect pressures and bullet seating, not to mention action performance.

Brake Cleaner is a mixture of volatile hydrocarbons VOCs, Toluene, xylene, heptane, benzene, acetone and many others. Its fine in small quantities to strip parts with a breather on and the notion of cleaning down to bare metal would seem to make sense however those chemicals highly toxic and should not come in contact with humans on a regular basis. Breathing it in any large quantity has shown lung and brain toxicity.

The rifle I mentioned above is what the light grey stock gun is. Factory tikka action and barrel threaded from the factory. It absolutely hammers 95 SST factory ammo as well as 103 ELDX and 108 ELDM hand loads. It now wears a suppressor and is a dream to shoot and carry.

Looks like a roughtec? I think I did see one of those on euro optic. The forums seem to think that it could need some work on the throat for longer bullets like the 108? Honestly tho if it would shoot the 103s that would be perfect.

Fouling a barrel is very different from a dirty barrel. Fouling is a great idea, especially after cleaning. A dirty barrel is full of reasons that affect accuracy and the integrity of the barrel - a really dirty barrel may even affect pressures and bullet seating.

You need to use guns and barrels that don’t suck and aren’t picky about seating and pressure. I like to use stuff that works personally.

Over 15,000 rounds on this action and closing in on 8,000 on this factory 20” Tikka barrel. Never has a single patch ran through it. It still does this every time I shoot it for “groups” at 100 yards.

This was back when I switched from 73 ELDM to 77 TMK. New scope/rings, new stock, and a fresh brake clean wipe down and lightly oiled bolt. 2 sight in shots on the right and then 48 shot group to finish off the box of ammo on the left.

I honestly don’t know which model it is sorry. It’s one of the stainless cerakoted models.

UM loaded up ammo for me no issues that I’m aware of with both 108 and 103.

1,100 rounds and it’s never been cleaned. 20
Shot 100 yard group from yesterday in 15-30 mph 8-9 o clock winds.

I have dozens of examples of guns like these and can keep providing real world examples instead of internet hearsay.

Cause the Tikka is a good platform at a reasonable price compared to others that currently offer 6cm.

A 243win and a 6cm are very similar in capacity with the 243win being larger so if loaded with the same bullet to the same pressure it’d have a minuscule more recoil all else being equal.

I used to share your same thoughts on many things related to firearms and also thought I knew everything. I also had great success using that methodology for decades.

That doesn’t mean that something else, that’s way easier, and may be better, doesn’t also work.

You should look at it a little closer haha. One of my old PRS buddies commented on how filthy it was a few weeks ago, I thought it looked pretty nice personally.

That photo was from after a fresh wipe down after elk blood and dust/dirt was on it from a hunt a couple weeks back

My background is probably as deep or deeper than some of the “experts” here. especially when it comes to rifle barrels. Carbon wrapped barrels specifically. So i’ll keep that knowledge if no one wants it.

That was a brand new Stockys stock and brand new scope/ rings as I mentioned. Fresh cleaning of wipe down of the action with brake clean works well you should try it.

I tried to get a good one but seem to suck at it. This is 1,100 rounds with only action wipe downs. Just wiped down after a hunt about a week ago or so.
