Low recoil rifle for elk, deer, etc. but .270 or larger caliber

I didn’t even think about this. NID is right. You can hardly find a bullet heavier than 150gr in .277 while there’s a large selection of .284 bullets.

As previously mentioned … 7-08 is your huckleberry. 😉😉

155g LRX
165G Accubond LR

175G Tipped Game King
170G Berger Elite Hunter
170G Soft Points

270 w 130 gr doesnt kick bad. 7-08 is likewise good, a lil slower than 270, which is why it kicks less.

6.5cm aint much less than 7-08.

How light is your 308? My tikka in 308 weighs about 9lb and i don't think it has much recoil at all. About as much as my 6.5 maybe a little more.

My vote is 7mm-08. I might be biased, I own two of them. There are a few more in the family as well. My favorite is a Tikka T3x compact . It has a blued 20'' barrel. I used it stock for a year then changed out the stock to a Bell & Carlson. It now weighs 7.5 pounds up from 7 but shoots much nicer with a better recoil pad and less muzzle jump. I use Hornady Interlock 139 gr bullets with H4350 in this gun. This summer I plan to work up a Nosler 12o gr. BT load. In my mind this Cartridge is as close to perfect all around big game round. Low recoil, great performance from minimal powder and 7mm bullets.

I use a tikka ctr 308 to knock over all the big game animals in my area, deer, elk & moose all under 400 yrd shots, with 178gr eldx / varget handloads, never really needed a second shot. In my 20's & 30's all I used was tikka stainless t3 lite 300wm for everything, but once my sons were of legal age to hunt big game I bought a tikka t3x ctr 308 for them becasue of the lighter recoil and heavier barrel profile, and honestly ever since that's the rifle I grab for the last few years, absolutely feel so confident shooting it, 300wm is now just collecting dust. Sell or trade that savage in for a tikka!
