I don’t trust how they are going about it because of in part who is doing it. Also, I disagree with how they are going about it. It’s not efficient or well thought out an it’s cut first figure it out later. There is no representation of our interest it’s one man’s opinion on waste. One he has demonstrated to be, so far, self serving. A man who isn’t likely to see waste the same way I do.

If Aldo Leupold were up there taking an ax to things or something like that then I could rest a bit more at ease that his priorities align better. But in the end that wouldn’t work out for others. There is a reason why the constitution puts those powers not in the executive but the legislative branch.

The system you speak about was a Democracy set up by the US Constitution. We lived by the laws enacted by Congress, you know WE THE PEOPLE. Now we have an autocracy based on conspiracy theories and mis-information that is controlled by an oligarchy. Everyone knew what was coming because of what transpired during the first term. The coup failed yet here we are with the same monkeys on our backs. I will feel fortunate if there is a hunting season this fall and we are still getting our SS and Medicare….benefits that we have already paid for!

I am more in line with the millions getting laid off than I am with the man with the ax. I see the harm, I’m yet to see the benefit.

No they haven’t been though. That’s the thing. Axing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau which cost us little and paid back a lot. That’s not a ridiculous program or expense. The work of those DOI employees wasn’t either.

Additionally, I have never seen the man speak well of the environment, hunting, or public lands. So I’m assuming based on an educated assumption that he’s going to view those things as waste.

We don’t know how the GAOA is going to be funded if at all. We don’t know how the excise taxes collected by the Pittman - Robertson Act will be distributed. Nor do we know what is going to happen to the Dingell act. All I have seen is the demonizing of the Conservation and Environmental groups. Here is Zeldin’s take: Zeldin said it is time for the EPA to return to its core mission of conservation — which he argued is a core conservative principle — and ditch the leftist environmentalist radicalism that has dominated in the past.

I am thrilled with the job being done. 9/10 rating. Not perfect but great. I made it clear one page 1 what the problem was. Precision cuts and stuff people are moaning in this thread was on the table in this presidents first term. the response from people like you and the other TDS'ers here was to cheer on using lawfare trying to put him jail and to start dumping money down endless holes, open borders, etc etc. So here we are. Making cuts that 6/10 americans are lovin. People know the kids needed the credit card taken away. I am sorry some people are losing their jobs. i said it already. I have been through this process and it sucks. But as we have seen time and time again in this thread. You and others refuse to even acknowledge there was glaring fat to be trimmed. So this is the way it had to happen. Sorry. Thats what happens when we have had years and years of mismanagement capped by the last 4 years of absolute disaster. How anything in this thread has remotely help people related to conservation, I have no clue.

Drama in the government is just a distraction from the real things we should be worried about.

He has about 200 more weeks to go. Every week I look around to see if the lives of our kids or ourselves are any better. So far no real change. Prices haven’t gone down and it looks like inflation will be going up, but I say we just wait and see.

We were going to upgrade a vehicle, but with all the drama and uncertainty we’re going to wait, so it has negatively affected us in that way.

Two kids in the family were hoping to sell this summer and upgrade houses, but higher interest rates and higher housing prices make that harder and more expensive if it happens at all.

We just did our taxes, so this time next year we’ll see if taxes come down - tarrifs are taxes, so already in a few short weeks our taxes are already up so it’s not a great start. His plans are to cut taxes of billionaires so that ticks me off.

I love eggs and would like the price to come down - today some wing nut in the administration tried to put the used car spin on how they want to look at wild ducks and geese and not kill chickens, but who’s pulling our leg - the only defense we have is isolating infected flocks and starting from scratch.

The used car guy sold you a car and he wants you to believe the “KarmaFox” report he put together himself. Let’s see how it holds up the next 200 weeks.

My understanding is the goal was to cut X number of federal employees. They offered the buyout to get the ball rolling. I’m not 100% on the exact details of how it works, but new hires/promoted employees have a probation period where they can get axed for no real reason (vs ppl in a position long term). Those layoffs probably affected a wide array of people who were simply in the wrong position at the wrong time.

Just like most layoffs they aren’t focused on the people just the numbers. Not sure what the next phase will be, but I’m sure there will be more layoffs ahead to achieve their goal (right or wrong).

Probationary termination is a lazy method to use because it sends a message to taxpayers implying that the ones at the bottom are of the least value, "waste" as is evidenced by comments made by some on this very site. In musk's method this dials focus away from the ones at the top of the pyramid who are leaps and bounds ahead of the average federal employees when it comes to wasting taxes and implementing the very programs that are being posted, the money is now gone for some programs but the person who pushed the program is still employed and in some cases reelected. You are correct that the intent of the probationary public employee system allows a probationary employee to be terminated for minimal reason, usually performance based, but other than the smoke and mirrors interpretation we will see at a later date the govt waste is still going to be there at the top along with those who pushed it and will now have more money to do as the only executive branch sees fit. If anyone is paying attention you see public lands budgets and positions have been cut over and over in the past 20yrs or so and are now being cut more. I think we can argue the finer details, but I still say we should be paying close attention at this point to every penny and every position being chiseled away instead of labelling every decision as waste and just trust the system as some are implying.

Trump came out with an executive order to change the funding provisions for the GAOA because he didn’t get what he wanted from Congress (during his first term). Biden then rescinded that executive order by executive order. Was Biden’s executive order rescinded by a new Executive Order…don’t know! And there are MAGA Republicans that have already tried to kill off Pitman - Robertson. There are real issues out there right now.

This thread reminds me of the quote, “They want you to fight a culture war instead of fighting a class war.” Insert whatever wedge issue into the mix and you can bet your butt the common person will argue to the end of the earth about it. Unfortunately, the middle class, the real people who run this country are too busy trying to make ends meet and fighting with each other. As long as this keeps happening the vote will always be split and no real change that helps the middle class can ever come about. This is exactly the playbook in my opinion.

I would hope that from whatever side of the isle you sit one would be weary of the richest man in the entire world having this much power and access within our government. The way things have gone in recent weeks it does seem that congress’s power of the purse has been usurped. I am not a constitutional scholar however I do know that it was designed to prevent an oligarchy and this could be another step in that direction.

To me this forum highlights the fact that we have a lot more in common than we give each other credit for and I hope that if or when the time comes that our public lands are in jeopardy we can all come together and raise hell in order to stop it.

The histories and personalities of the persons involved and put into positions by this government. The project 2025 agenda doesn’t scream conservation funding… The people who wrote that and want it executed are in position to make it happen. So I’m going to assume so until I see otherwise. I trust them to carry out their agenda.

Edit: If you don't get your Medicare it'll be because the corrupt politicians spent all the money and we can't afford it. They've been robbing Medicare and social security for decades.

Gotta strong limb you're on and you're right. I wouldn't be opposed to Cuban advising even though he hates Trump but he does strike me as a dude who's not as corrupt as the other two. The logic flaw of rich people with lots of money not wanting more money goes against the entire history of rich people.
