Project 2025 and public lands and environment

It's not a lie and it's not a fantasy to see where there could be a major transferal/disposition of federal lands.

Look at the anti-public land sentiment that exists in the current administration.

When people step up, it may very well be too late. I truly hope I'm wrong.

You always have great contributions to this site with your input and very clear passion for the outdoors. You have some of the best bird hunting posts going too.. I appreciate it.

There will always be folks that dip the toes in selling public lands, just the way it is. Just like there will always be folks that try to stop hunting or litter these lands with horrid habitat choices such as wind and solar.

We all agree that we should fight this at every step. I could go on and on about how to do so..what bothers me the most has anyone even tried to reach out and talk to them about what makes this land so special ? We have a son of a sitting President who seemingly has his ear and is a hunter. Start there, immediately.

I just dont think this thread or the other threads started by a certain group of people on here are even close to helpful. Even further I am very skeptical of some of the posters, I just can’t see how starting a thread about public lands and follow up with 70 posts a days whining about only very polarized political beliefs is genuine or believable. I also question their sanity and employment at this point also. I will always support robust conversations about wildlife and the outdoors. I just don’t think this has been that.

Have a good night.

people have asked multiple times what the people like you stating this in this thread want people to do. We have 1. join groups 2. write reps

so the same thing we hear every time an issue comes up. is there anything else people want to suggest. not complain about. I am missing a course of action that was suggested in this thread? not jsut directed at you Jsnyder. all participants.

edit: not dismissing those solutions. i will be doing those things. i think everyone can benefit from doing them too.
Hopefully you are making your voices heard as understaffed and underfunded federal agencies are suffering further cuts to the staffing.

Hopefully you are voicing your concern about the freeze on federal funds. Many conservation projects involve grant funding, which is frozen.

Hopefully you are expressing to your congressional delegates how important public lands are to your quality of life, your local economy, and the continuation of the North American model of wildlife management.

good suggestions for concerned people. thanks for putting it that way. I think that is a good message for all sides in this heated debate. I think i will add that contacting your rep NOW and just saying you don't want cut to extend into federal land transfers and what every else "insert your issue here". I think doing it ahead of time and not waiting until something happens is good with the pace of things.

Some good points on these last few posts. The only thing I would add is to expand your media sources on this topic, if you’re someone who has insulated themselves in only conservative media (not saying that you specifically have done that, just that it’s something people can do). Conservative media is now effectively the mouthpiece of the government, in the same way that liberal media was under Biden. You won’t hear about the bad stuff from them.

If you’re someone who didn’t hear about the USFS firings until you read about it on this forum, you probably won’t hear about whatever happens next from whatever media you consume.

You can also get in touch with your local representative and ask they support the following bill.

I can see why there is concern about anything Mr. Pendley writes. I didn’t see anything about transferring any Public Lands. Actually he is trying to acquire more public lands but only for the purpose of extraction. In fact Trump’s Energy Emergency Executive Order can invoke eminent domain for the purpose of energy extraction. That executive order places priority on energy extraction over any other use of public lands, by-passing the ESA and any other wildlife management, regulatory oversight.

By treaty, eminent domain cannot be invoked on Tribal lands. Pendley suggests that the Tribal lands buy-back program be re-instated to acquire tribal lands for extraction. But read the fine print Sec 3 chapter 16, pg 538. The funds for this buy-back program are to be taken from the GAOA. Rumor has it that AiM is on the warpath and there will be another pipeline protest at Standing Rock.

He suggested that the Grizzly and Gray Wolf be delisted which is something I agree with.

Is this related to the Trump admin argument that birthright citizenship does not apply to those born on reservations or is that an entirely stand-alone position on citizenship?

If coercion isn't the right word, I don't know what is. Tell me what happens if one doesn't pay his taxes? What is the DOI's annual receipts? Maintenance isn't cheap. I don't have a problem paying to use the land, but I can only speak for myself. There are millions of taxpayers that do not use public lands. Why should they be forced to pay for your and my recreation?
You’re assuming a) they’re only used for rec, and b) that they don’t generate income. The forest service has a congressional mandate of multiple use; these forests were established to provide timber and cattle grazing. People love to talk about how we need small businesses; these forests support ranchers, contractors and loggers who could in no way shape or form compete with Weyerhaeuser or Plum Creek.

Stand alone issue. Some of these reservations are very poor and alcoholism and drugs has been a problem for quite a few years. Tribal leaders are suggesting that tribal members carry their tribal registration and their birth certificate.

A gal we know lost her permanent Forest Service job a few days ago. Life comes at you fast when you voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party, and now your face has been bitten off. Forest Service employees are from every small town family out west - the idiocracy of random cuts, and further understaffing of already thinly staffed field offices are exactly what people voted for.

Normally I feel bad when bad things happen to good people, but this year I don’t feel a thing for those who have brought this on themselves.

Can’t they all just learn to code?

are we gonna go the meme thread route? I am here for it if we are.

Trump now says that the supreme court ruling on presidential immunity gives him "unrestricted power"

Seems to be the case that we can have a democracy or we can have a president with "unrestricted power". I don't see away anyone can reconcile those two aspects coexisting simultaneously. This is going to have to go back to the supreme court.

Years ago anyone who considered driving anything other than an American gas car was considered a hardcore liberal.
Nowadays a South African who is the king of electric cars tells you what to do......He buys the POTUS for 200 mill no questions asked....Now, that is some real American shit right there.
