Older Hunters

I believe we do get better with age, I’m 60 and have had some of my best experiences in the past few years, including some awesome hunts. I can’t get around quite the way I used to but not too bad yet, stay active.

What really sucks about getting old is you work your ass of all those years looking forward to the day when you can hunt, fish and those sorts of things and not worry about can I get off work to go. Then when you retire looking forward to doing those type of things, you're so busted up that it's a struggle sometimes. I think you should be able to retire from birth until say 70 and then go to work.

I am getting slower as I age. Which is a good thing in the woods, still hunting.

It's not the age folks, it's the experiences and the memories. The body isn't as willing but the experience makes it so you don't have to have a 20 year old body to make up for your ignorance.

I never thought about it before but the upcoming season will be my 59th year of chasing elk. Every year a challenge with the exhileration of success when it comes. I hope you all have experienced a lifetime of success and the desire to chase until you can't.

Awesome!!!! my wife gives me grieve and is always telling me you are not 24 anymore stop doing that stuff that causes pain....lol. My body screams that its 62 but my mind says 24 1/2. Well at least when I'm sleeping.

I’m only 54 but as I have shifted focus on retirement I want to make sure those retirement years are enjoyed to their max. One can only hope fate doesn’t reach out and slap you. But you can stay active and live healthy, mentally and physically, to skew odds in your favor.

Damn. Never thought I would say this......but......gotta apply for Medicare by October.
I guess I can still kinda do what I want.....its just a whole lot slower and a lot more of over 30 vitamins (advil) mixed with a pendleton or two.
Still in love with the high country.

Was happy to find this forum for us "experienced" hunters. I'd say that I have finally progressed thru the five stages of a hunter and like to think we are in the "Sportsman" stage now. I think it important to teach the younguns about hunting etiquette. Lots of new hunters today were not as fortunate as I...lucky my father was a good safe hunter.

My bowhunting buddy is a bit nervous about us being in "big bear" country this Sep, and I told him "I get it, you've got a lot more useable life left. Me, well it'll give the grandkids a hell of a story!"

Dam I never thought I would be referred to as an “ old guy”. All we can do is stay active , workout on a regular basis and hunt as often as our bodies allow. My friend asked why I don’t start taking up golf. I told him I’ll start playing golf when I’m too old to hunt, I’m 62 years old, that gives me 15-17 more years to hunt until I buy a set of golf clubs.

I like playing golf with a shotgun, its called sporting clays. Never made sense to me why you would hit a little white ball with a stick and then go chase it.
