I am in the process of moving, a few more miles out of town
and found a couple of other old fart photos to add to the ones in my
post#10 .

The javelina , in the late 70s,is the only example of my traveling out of
Alaska to hunt.
A friend of mine put me in for a handgun only hunt in Arizona.

The small grizzly, in the mid 80s, was most likely a Canadian bear that
was taken on the border, on the Alaska side of course!
Please don’t judge me for the funny hat!!?.
The friend that dropped me off gave it to me as we were unloading the airplane
and dared me to wear it if I was successful!

These are typical flying photos , most in support of hunters and fishermen.

@mtwarden, I don’t want to hijack this thread so if you started another one that would be great, but I’m just curious if you’d ever share your most hair raising crazy experience as a warden? I’m sure there may be many to choose from. Anyway, much respect for the job and amazing experiences I’m sure you had throughout the years.

I found a few old deer hunt pics from back in the day in Wayne National Forest in Southern Ohio. Big timber type hunting. We had guys come in from all over the country. In one picture alone there are guys from Ohio, Florida, South Carolina, Kansas and Colorado. We killed a lot of deer back in those days With slug guns. We stayed out all day. Some of us would meet up for lunch at a small pond up on a ridge. I still hunt with some of those guys. A few found other interests to pursue. Everything was new to us back then. We had crappy clothing and equipment and we didn't even know it. We just had a good time.IMG_1941.jpegIMG_1943.jpegIMG_1930.jpeg

Heres some pics from another by gone era of mine. Wild boar hunting in Southwest Florida. We drove around in an old bronco with the top and doors cut off. We would drive around then get out and walk around big cypress heads that were mostly dry with a small amount of water in the center During the winter. We would hunt Turkeys ,dove and quail at the same time as boar. We couldn't afford rifles at the time so we would shoot buckshot, slugs and bird shot in our shotguns. We were swamp kings.

This was in Montana 1978. I tracked this lone bull for 4 1/2 hours and got a snap shot at him at 150 yards as he wheeled around and stepped back in the timber. The last sight picture I had at the recoil was a large fir tree. Shot him through the center of his heart and he dropped behind the fir tree. Probably my best shot and one of the times my tracking worked. He was 9 1/2 miles back from the road. Glad we had the horses.

Thanks. Yeah I've had a few as I'm guessing every warden (and probably deputy, police officer, highway patrolman) has.

If I get some free time, I'll see if I can pull a few stories together :)

Eagle Cap Wilderness 1990 ish?
Bittersweet posting as it was a great trip but I was notified this weekend that Jerry (Jer is in the middle, me on the right) passed away on Saturday.
His two favorite sayings were "Happy Trails" and "If there's wood in the air, there's hope."
RIP Longbow Jer.
