What season are you planning to hunt?

You could have used your general tag.
You are the one that decided the refund was more important then the hunt.
And the one that did not do the proper research.

Information was out there.
You weren't ripped off because you didn't know.
Sorry, but $516 to apply for an elk permit is a rip-off and highway robbery. I can't think of any other state where the application fees are so grossly overpriced for an elk draw. Yes, the information was out there, but I can understand the OPs frustration with the system in place.

Robbery means that someone forced someone else to give them their hard-earned money. And it clearly isn't overpriced considering the number of NR's who apply for permits every year and return their general tags when they don't get the permit.

However, if you personally feel it is overpriced that is certainly fair, and there is a VERY simple solution to avoid overpaying in the future: Go hunt elk elsewhere.

I'm glad I could help you out, no need to thank me!

Sounds like we can count one less applicant out for next year in Montana!

Its nearly $2k to hunt elk as a non resident in Wyoming AND you cant hunt the wilderness areas without a guide. The price is known going in, if its too expensive then dont apply

I have a question. Yesterday when I logged in I saw a chart that showed that I had been unsuccessful in the initial drawing but had been successful in the drawing from pool of returned licenses.

Today, I don’t see that information. Does anyone know what page to go to to find it?

Look back a few pages. Happened to a few of us. The thing you likely saw was just an explanation of released licenses …..didn’t mean you drew one. We called today.

"Highway robbery" is defined as either a robbery committed on a highway or excessive profit derived from a business transaction... come on man, do you honestly think I was talking about a robbery on a highway?

People buy overpriced stuff all day long... that doesn't make them not overpriced. How about we compare the non-refundable application fees to apply for a Montana elk permit to a comparable product, ie the non-refundable application fees for elk in any other state in the west?

I know you said not to thank you, but I truly appreciate the helpful tip to hunt elk elsewhere.

Where you aware of the cost of the tag before you applied?

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's a rip off.
They gave you a f**king tag.
That tag just wasn't special enough for your privileged self.
Wow... I've never seen a NR simp so hard.

You guys are right... it's totally not an overpriced application system!

Any other residents not showing results? When I check it says draws are still pending? Only thing I put in for was an elk b tag.

How am I simping?
Cuck

In an effort to keep this on topic, I think we can both agree that it is expensive and we all know the costs upfront. It always makes me smile when people complain about tag prices but not about the $10,000+ worth of gear they buy for hunting/shooting. Cheers Gents

So in dudes defense “I think” the frustration is when you apply as a party you expect to stay as a party and not have that party broken up and then put you in a 80% situation and losing points.
I don’t recall it saying that initially. That is fairly messed up if you don’t know that from the get go.

Yes you can still go alone, but kinda defeats the purpose of a party app (unless you can walk away un penalized….minus app fees)

I’m with him 100% as it doesn’t make sense, however, I’m just used to the Sh*it show that is the MT regs. Although I’ve never personally dealt with it, it seems that the only purpose the party application serves is to pool points. IMO, if a party draws, everyone draws or no one does. FWP needs to take that into consideration, but I feel as though I can’t complain without offering a thoughtful solution. I don’t think over allocation is the answer, but I also don’t think breaking a party up is either.

One solution I can see is just add it as a checkbox on Party Applications....

"If your party fails to draw in the general drawing, do you want to be considered for Released tags as an individual."

Not that there aren't enough complications as it is... but I could see this being a compromise.

I spoke with the FWP prior to doing a party app, and what ends up happening usually is someone in the group does not check the boxes correctly through the entire application process. FWP will go in a separate the applications based on what was selected and allow people to still be in the draw as an individual instead of a party…. Also, once you hit submit there is no changing the app. This made me paranoid when setting up the group application. Check the group number to see if the same group number is successful or unsuccessful.
