Hey guys I’m gonna jump into this thread & help however I can. Got my Gen2 Ranch last week went with 5.56. This is my first Ruger American Rifle that I’ve owned. I’ve heard some Hate on the actions but I’ll say mine is great for a $600 Ranch Rifle. I spent the day stripping it down & cleaning it. I got the trigger down to 3.5lbs wouldn’t go down to 3. Installed an Area419 rail successfully. Was a little nervous but I nailed it. These are on all my hunting rifles as my kids kill everything off a TriPod.

I think I’m more excited about this Maven scope. I went with the RS1.2 & I love it so far. This is my first Maven Product & I’m pretty impressed so far.

I cleaned the barrel really good & was suprised how dirty it was straight from the factory. I don’t know how much Ruger shoots these at the factory but it took me awhile to get that barrel cleaned & ready for break-in tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this rifle! I’m thinking about building something similar for my kids to start hunting. I want them to be able to shoot everything suppressed. The barrel already being threaded for this price is pushing me towards the Ruger over the Tikka.

I have never seen a Ruger American Gen 1 that didn't shoot lights out. I would expect these Gen 2 models to do the same.

I don't know how Ruger does it but the original Americans are shooters. Everyone I have ever seen has had fantastic accuracy.
There are legitimate arguments to be made for the crudeness of manufacture, and the cheap stock, but for the money, vs the accuracy you get, it's damn hard to beat. Hopefully the new generation delivers for the increased price.
Years ago I picked up a new RA .243 on sale for $275. Like you said, the stock is junk but man that gun shoots awesome. I always thought if they would just put a little more money in the stock they would have an excellent product. We’ll see, maybe that’s what they finally did.

One gripe I may have never realized from my other ranch (now I have to go look at it when I get home) but the use of AR mags locks the bolt to the rear when the mag is empty.

Is it a huge deal - not when you typically have 10 rounds already - but the ability to single load a round when needed is something I’m used to with most of my guns.

So something to keep in mind if you use any of the models which utilize an AR mag vs AI style.

Took the new Ruger out for a unserious rabbit hunt/hike today, loved how lightweight and desert camo the 5.56 ranch version is
I like the scope you put on that rifle…..I would probably go that same route if I got another one…..

Thanks, I really like having a compact lightweight scope, it’s a Leupold 1.5-4x, got it on sale last year at Bass Pro under $300

looks like it doesn't take much to convert some riffles to AI style

I was able to handle one of the gen 2s chambered in 7mm-08 at my local gun store. While I’m a big fan of the original this one seems to be a big improvement. Personally I was a fan of the stock and the action felt pretty good. If it wasn’t being held for another customer I would have left with it and I plan on picking one up in 7mm-08 when I find it available. They were selling them for $579

Got to handle a 5.56 G2 at a local shop. He had a few of the “go wild“ camo models. Those have a 22” barrel. That damn thing felt like a musket next to that new model both in length and weight. The 5.56 has a 10 round magazine, I didn’t find it a big deal and can imagine the 3 rounders won’t be bad as well.
The stock felt pretty good to me also.
I‘ve read about being able to “squeeze the barrel“ against the stock. I tried it on this G2, it’s there but didn’t seem too bad. For what I’m doing, I will buy one of these in 7mm-08 as my “ big game rifle”. Honestly my chances of western hunting are pretty slim and most I’d ever want to do you guys tell me the 7mm will work for :D

This shop is run out of an Ace Hardware here in Athens Ohio where my GF lives. He was selling it at $649.00 with the “included cash discount”. Seems high seeing what some of you all are reporting.
I’ll buy in WV, there’s no tax on firearms or ammo here. Plus, CHL covers the background check.

I know enough not to shoot my eye out. So take what I write with that in mind.
These seem like good rifles. And I’d bet Ruger sells a ton of them.

M77 will be discontinued soon is my fear
Will they be missed? I have only owned one but it was awful, no close second place for the worst rifle I’ve owned

If the barrel got warm it opened up into a bad shotgun pattern, and had over 7# trigger pull from the factory

The guy I sold it to (cheap) got it shooting ok by doing some trigger work and bedding, but why would someone start with that platform?

I’m sure they have improved some, but there are just too many better options, if it’s discontinued, it wouldn’t be a mystery why

I’ve always thought of the m77 as the poor man’s model 70, although not being any cheaper. I think the newer ones have better barrels. But for what they cost they’re a hard sell.

If you handled a gen1 at any point, you know the stock was dogshit. The gen 2 stock is more of a painted dog shit with a butt pad, probably 2 inches below centerline of bore. I'm sure it recoils great.

The trigger is the same as gen1. The zipper sound and feeling from the bolt is gone, and I will say the bolt is butter smooth.

If stockys comes out with a VG for them, I'm sure I'll wind up with one. They fixed alot of the major issues with the gen1.
