I'm short and I got 26in stays, I'd rather have more lift than not enough. I don't really notice much of a difference when walking through thick stuff

What advantages other than versatility is the duplex going to have over the standards? You give a lb or so of more weight to be able to dump your bag and use it as a frame?

I'm only talking about 24" and 26" stays with Kifaru packs as many other companies have stays that long, but don't give the needed lift because they are set in the wrong place.

24" 18-19 inch torso or less for heavy loads (roughly)

26" 19-20 and above for heavy loads

This is also a matter of personal preference and is very subjective, but those #'s are what I start with.

The Duplex is going to handle awkward loads a little better, especially if you don't pack correctly.

You have 3 bags and 1 frame to choose from, so versatility is better with the Duplex.

Weight savings and simplicity are the strong points of the standard Timberline packs and for a 5-6 lb pack they handle weight very well. I actually notice little difference between the two with heavy weight, but I take care when loading it up too.

I think it will boil down to each persons style of hunting.......

If you come out west for 7 days each season and only use the pack for that, then the Standard is a good choice.

If you're hauling out 15 plus animals a year, hunting in multiple states and hauling crazy loads, than the Duplex is a pretty hard option to pass up.

Taller guys looking for a load hauling daypack will like either model, but if that guy wants a "do all" type system and will head to AK for a sheep hunt from time to time, than swapping the bags on the Duplex is a nice way to go.

I have a 19" torso, but always opt for the 26" stays when given the chance. I don't find the extra 2" taller any more cumbersome than the 24" model. Plus if you ever need to resell it'll be that much more valuable as it will work great for any persons torso whereas the 24" stay version will be a little more constrained selling to those with shorter torsos.

When it doubt always go bigger, I went with the 26" stays also. So Aron, will they offer a KU bag for this setup, maybe this has been covered.

I don't think a KU is in the future for the Duplex, but I'm a piss ant in the pecking order:)

If it happens it wouldn't be for a long time (lot of R&D would need to be done).

I agree with "when in doubt go bigger", but I also have the luxury of getting the phone call of guys that tell me I gave them bad advice when I said that as they ended up with 24's :)

I stole these photos from Mel on the Kifaru forums, but this gives you an idea of how versatile the Cargo Panel, Hunting Frame and pockets can be.

I personally love the frame! After having the Siwash which I loved, with heavy weight I prefer the frame, the DT3 will be awsome for elk hunting or my every day pack! I can use the Long Hauler for bigger trips. I should be done with packs now. Kifaru must be rocking right now trying to keep up!

Mel's thread with all the pics is why I bought the Cargo Panel. The Cargo Panel is one of the big reasons i didn't go with Mystery Ranch either.

Can someone post the link to Mel's pics? That is so cool to see. I changed my order from T1 with grab it in foliage to the DT1 with cargo panel in coyote brown. Only reason I got the grab it was to hold my bow. The cargo panel will do a better job of that and protect my bow better. Even thinking about only hauling meat on the outside of the pack with the cargo panel. There has to be a way to move the meat up higher on your back while using it. Any suggestion? That will keep all my gear on the inside nice and clean. The pics with the panel and all those pockets is awesome. I'm liking the brown color as well over the foliage.

Hey Aron,

In that last pic of Mels, what bags are on the frame (not on the CP)? Are those both pods? What size are those? That looks like a great setup.

Yep, those are pods. You can attach those to the actual Tline bags or to the frame, extremely versatile.

may be a little off topic but wouldn't hauling meat with the cargo panel on the outside of the pack be keeping a lot of weight to far from your back?isnt it a big no no to have the bulk of a very heavy load any where but right up against your back and cinched up tight? its a nice idea but i would want the load much closer,i think it would pull pretty bad on your shoulders that far off your back too.am i missing something?

The beauty of the pods is you can put them anywhere, and you can get the load right up against your back.
