Be honest though. How hard would it be for you to skip pulling the barreled action out and checking to see if there is any grease on the threads and that it is properly torqued. Old habits die hard. I'm not sure I could do it.

Looks like a good setup.

Haha. Of course “I” would.

It’s retail to retail. The “I found a good deal” is not a legitimate argument- one day you’ll be able to find a good deal on an MRC.
Which is why I did not count it.

Again, I want one, I think it has enough to offer above a Tikks; but the Tikka still wins on a budget, in part because a guy can spend $850 and go kill stuff while slowly adding the rest. Different audience.
Agin, good deal- that isn’t the going rate for the market. The vast majority of smiths are between $200 and $300 for a cut and thread- then add shipping.
I shipped it to LRI, they charged $125 for a cut and thread this spring, that price is available to anyone. Local smith charges $200, but I don't know his work quality.
A railed RokStok costs $515?
No. A no rail, single color is $495. I included shipping in the $515. I have a railed one and will not be buying another with a rail. If someone wants a rail, that obviously adds more.
I would bet that the number of people on this board that assemble a rifle as MRC is going to do for these would fit in a living room.
That may be. Personally I would still check it at this point. I had to take a band file to the inlet of my most recent stock to get the action to fit, and it was allegedly QC'd. Perhaps I over estimate most people's mechanical competence.
The stock on the MRC rifle is carbon fiber.
I understand why, same reason I've not bought wood. While I prefer wood, it is not worth the $1k premium on my current budget. I was hoping though.

Edited for clarity.

Friend is getting a tikka done by hallco, who I think you're talking about. I'm eager to see it.

Might be, the storefront is The Annex. If they do a good job, let me know as I prefer to support local.

The true question is which rifle to order out the gate - 6 creed or 22 creed. I see a lot of people touting the 22 creed right now but it’s hard to ignore the various bullet choices for 6 creed. Either way - I don’t own either caliber so it would be a good way to justify a new rifle
If your state requires 6mm minimum, that would be the only reason I would choose the 6 Creed over the 22 Creed. Maybe if your pushing very hot hand loads you can get some advantage out of the 6 Creed, but in factory ammo with realistic and field seen/verified velocities here’s some numbers to consider…

Let’s say both guns are setup identical with 18” barrels. Input 3100 for the .224 and 2850 for the .243 for the calcs. 10 MPH full value wind. 5,000 ft DA.

At 800 yards the 103 ELDX is 1,750ish FPS. 700ish ft lbs of energy. 5.6 MIL Up. 1.4 MIL Wind.

At 800 yards the 108 ELDM is 1,800ish FPS. 780ish fr lbs of energy. 5.4 MIL Up. 1.3 MIL Wind.

At 800 yards the 80 ELDX is 1,900ish FPS. 650ish ft lbs of energy. 4.6 MIL Up. 1.3 MIL Wind.

At 800 yards the 88 ELDM is 2,000ish FPS. 800ish ft lbs of energy. 4.4 MIL Up. 1.1 MIL Wind.

Free recoil energy in an 8 lb gun shooting 88 ELDM out of 22CM is around 9.5-10 ft lbs.

Free recoil energy in an 8 lb gun shooting 108 ELDM out of 6CM is around 11.5-12 ft lbs.

Are those pretty accurate velocity numbers in your experience? I seem to recall seeing closer to 2950 on the 6 creed in an 18” but don’t own one. I haven’t looked too heavily into the 22 creed

I emailed Clay at Prophet last week asking if they had plans to bring MRC in again, since they did before the ownership change. He said no, but would look into it with interest.
Love to hear that! Saves a little $ in the import process if they’re already stocking directly.

I’m pushing 112 Match Burners at 2940 from an 18” 6 CM at 41.8g of H4350 in Alpha LRP. I’m fine with getting half a dozen firings out of my brass. But, I have a feeling the 22 CM I have coming will push 88’s pretty damn fast too.

Go ahead and order a second barrel if you decide on the 22 Creed, stupid fun to shoot.

I’m hunting in Colorado next week, so while it’s a factor for consideration if I wanted “one gun” it’s not a big one unless I sell my 6.5 PRC and have nothing. That said, I would prefer some more factory loaded options for 22 creed. It’s interesting that 88 eldm isn’t being offered right now.

No sir. 2850 is generous in 18”. Here you go…

This is a really neat project, though it's a bit of a tragedy that it stands out from other options. Why is a properly assembled and functioning rifle with useful calibers, twist rates, and barrel lengths an anomaly in the market?
These rifles will sell at some volume but the price point lands towards the custom range. The concept is reminiscent of the Barrett Fieldcraft, and at a similar price point to the Fieldcraft it would be an absolute no-brainer.

Yep, and the Fieldcraft was underpriced, leading to its demise.

Personally, for what they are shooting for, I think this too is under priced. Good QC takes time and skill, it is expensive and you don't just want people who run through the motions.

I think two tiers make sense, both built the same, but one with a function check and a basic test shot, and one with the full process. Add a few extras to the full process one that don't change function, but will make people feel they are getting more (say a fluted barrel, a Ti bolt handle, and a trigger job). Similar to the QC difference between NF's SHV line and all their other lines.

The lower tier is a $3 K rifle. Everything learned from the upper tier will improve the lower.

Tikka does it cheaper by having perfected manufacturing and volume over time. Though, in a 3K rifle, the minor imperfections, even if only cosmetic, will be judged harshly. The current RokStok is what I expect for the price. I would be unhappy with it on a 3K rifle, but an extra hour of finish work would correct that (and add $100-200 to the price, so I prefer the imperfections).

I have 18 20 22 6cm. Lapua brass with 108-112gr stuff , 2900-2950 isn't much of a problem from an 18in. Psi is up there I'm sure, but action and brass don't show it. Keep the throats clean every 75-100 rounds. Carbon rings are real. They develop quickly on the 22cm especially when running them fast like we all do.

As to this rifle, sounds pretty cool. I personally do not trust machinsits at factory gun builders unfortunately. Inconsistency is the only constant. I would love to get an action, stock, and bottom metal and have my guy put a barrel on it to try out.

I also read this as, still long waits for rokstoks in the future.

Building custom rifle:
Action/trigger/dbm: $1300+
Chambered blank: $650+
Rokstok: $520
Bedding:$150+
Two mags: $100+

This is lower end components, say origin/Mac bros. Wilson barrel. Swap over to a bat igniter and a kreiger, yeah it all goes up $400. You're in the same ballpark as this rifle here. I have a hard time going off the shelf hope and a prayer for same money. Manufacturers and machining in automated process is very consistent especially if the actions/bolts are all in one fixture and machine. I don't feel they'll have any issues with the actions. It's the "in house barrels" and the ability and or care to detail of the guys who are machining them for fitment. Where are they dialing in at, to what degree of acceptable(or preferred 0.0000) run-out. How often are reamers being replaced? I hope this rifles a success and its all we want it to be, but I'll always the the skeptic to off the shelf rifles.

You just confirmed exactly what I said. The only way you’re getting that velocity with 6 creed is with hot hand loads. Factory ammo numbers are well known and as I said, 2850 is very generous for 108 ELDM.

What 22 Creedmoor rifles “throat” are you having to clean every 75-100 rounds? My 22 Creedmoor Tikka is nearing 1,000 rounds and has never been cleaned. First 300 rounds were spicy hand loads. Last 700 have been factory.

Probably a topic for a different thread.

Agreed - factory 108s are about 2790 from my 18” 6 CM. You’d be stepping on the throttle to get 2950 from an 18”.
