Anyone looking forward to a mileage tax on their western hunts? Less non res opportunities, increased licensing and fees . Wonder how many years before hunts are completely priced out of household budgets?

I saw that they were discussing it. I can’t imagine the outcry if they try to put a GPS mileage tracker in every single car in the USA. I guess it depends on the planned cost, not sure what that is.

Not looking good, but this is what it comes to when you outspend your income by how many trillions now?

In the big picture, a mileage tax makes sense as it is passing the cost of highway maintenance to those who use it most, akin to a consumption tax.

Having said that, the application by this administration likely has political overtones as much or more than fiscal ones, so I doubt I will be supportive of how this would be implemented - especially in the context of existing gas taxes that are charged at the state level for this sort of funding.

I drive 55 miles a day to and from work. I average 48mph. I have coworkers who average 10% of that.....same time on the road, just not turning wheels.

Can you explain highway funding and maintenance?

If I drive on a county road, city road, state highway, federal highway and private road on my trip.....who gets the money? If I cross state lines, who gets the money?

How are you going to police this?

Your first question is easily researchable on the internet. Allocation would not be perfect, but could be determined by residency and measured via odometer.

I could get behind that rational if it was applicable across the board.

I don't have children, so I shouldn't pay as much school related tax. I don't go to jail so I shouldn't pay as much corrections tax. I live a healthy lifestyle, so why should my insurance rates be the same as someone who doesn't ? etc.

So I get priced out of living close to work from property tax or real estate prices I should suffer another tax because I have sit in a car all day ?

The only part of it that makes sense is that they would be able to apply a road tax to electric vehicles, and since electric vehicles will only have the mileage tax while fossil fuel vehicles will have a mileage tax and a fuel tax, that'll help push the narrative that electric is cheaper.

CA has had such high adoption of EV's which were essentially getting a free ride, so the whole system had to be re-thought. The pivot was to a registration tax, but that still doesn't address the variability of road use.

Yeah this was the liberal way that everyone was so for this last few years and its all we have had jammed down our throats. People got what they voted for, I couldnt care less honestly. The people of this country are gutless and want to be spoon fed everything.

Let the liberals on here explain why another tax is good. They love taxes for no reason.

Maybe we should just use some of the tax money we already pay to fix infrastructure? I understand that transsexual studies in Pakistan are important, but so are bridges in the U.S. I know which one I want my money to go towards- do you, comrades?
