Those things get wrapped into the “public good,” and being the public, you get taxed. In Washington, you are taxed on the value of your house to pay for schools. Even people who no longer have kids in school or never had kids. Every year...drip drip drip...and they love increasing it because it’s “for the kids.”I could get behind that rational if it was applicable across the board.
I don't have children, so I shouldn't pay as much school related tax. I don't go to jail so I shouldn't pay as much corrections tax. I live a healthy lifestyle, so why should my insurance rates be the same as someone who doesn't ? etc.
So I get priced out of living close to work from property tax or real estate prices I should suffer another tax because I have sit in a car all day ?
