I could get behind that rational if it was applicable across the board.

I don't have children, so I shouldn't pay as much school related tax. I don't go to jail so I shouldn't pay as much corrections tax. I live a healthy lifestyle, so why should my insurance rates be the same as someone who doesn't ? etc.

So I get priced out of living close to work from property tax or real estate prices I should suffer another tax because I have sit in a car all day ?
Those things get wrapped into the “public good,” and being the public, you get taxed. In Washington, you are taxed on the value of your house to pay for schools. Even people who no longer have kids in school or never had kids. Every year...drip drip drip...and they love increasing it because it’s “for the kids.”

My man. Stop now. Please.
Your replies are horrible. Weak. Not even topic related.
You have lost. Accept it and move along. For honor.

This is precisely what’s wrong in society right now. A discussion does not need to have winners and losers. This is a discussion forum, on the internet, no less. Let’s keep that in perspective here.

This is a thread about a potential mileage tax. People are debating the merits of such. You obviously can’t support your argument that a mileage tax is a good thing, so you accused another member of questioning the results of the November election. Completely off track of the discussion- and not the first time in this thread that you have done exactly that. Now you continue to redirect the thread with a “this is what is wrong with the country” comment.
YOU are what is wrong with the country. YOU should have been spanked as a kid. YOU should not have received trophies for just being apart of the team.
Good luck in your future endeavors.
Sorry I derailed this thread. I am done with it.

What’s sad is that facts don’t matter in a world of alternative facts.
I would have to agree. Facts dont matter but lies do. The mileage tax was originally put forth by our under qualified Sect of Transportation Buttigieg to save the planet and eliminate gas powered vehicles.

Caught again in a lie

in 2019 over 1800 companies left California in a year. Some of the companies that left in recent years include:
  • Toyota
  • Bazz Houston Co.
  • Kulicke & Soffa Industries Inc.
  • Lennox Hearth Products Inc.
  • Hino Motors Manufacturing USA
  • Pfizer
  • Embraer Aero Seating Technologies
  • Superior Industries International, LLC
  • Triangle Brass Manufacturing Co.
  • Kubota Tractor Corp.
  • Panasonic Disc. Manufacturing Corp.
  • Abbott Laboratories
In 2020, Oracle, Palantir and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise were among the companies that announced they're relocating their headquarters out of the Golden State.

Let me know if you need more. That's just California. I'm here all night.
And Boeing fled the mismanaged disaster of W WA and took 15,000 plus jobs out of state

Legitimately, good schools are additive to property values and a well-educated populace benefits all of us. While the value may be hard to quantify, I would rather pay property taxes for schools than for prisons.

The problem comes when those tax increases do not show up as better schools, but are deferred out to pay for other pork...but I digress...

I completely agree. Taxation need to be purposeful and should be well-spent. That sadly is not the norm.

The point was raised because it often seems people can't look past the direct benefit and assume they get no benefit at all (e.g. I don't have kids so shouldn't have to pay property tax that is directed to schools). I'd rather pay a bit for other people's kids to be educated in the hope that, at a minimum, they don't feel the need to rob me/I don't have to pay for them to be in jail and more optimistically that they will leverage the education into a significant income and relieve me of some of my tax burden.

I am pretty sure “mileage tax is the only way to tax the users”

And

“Evs don’t buy gas to pay the tax”

Are two different things.

My man, you kind of took his response out of context. He is saying to taxing EVERYONE who uses the road. RIght now, EV drivers really do not pay a road tax because they do not purchase gasoline or diesel. I like the idea of leaving gas and diesel the way it is and taxing the EV market with that mileage crap. Seems like then everyone who uses the roads will get taxed.

Maybe. But I’m never surprised at how ppl miss things by listening to talking points that politicians use!

And I’d be good with that also, or even all mileage tax but get rid of gas tax! However we all know any tax NEVER goes away!

And like I said the sad part is a large portion of the population can’t even think for themselves to figure out “wait they didn’t remove the gas tax and now I’m being double taxed”

Also, if they just taxed EVs with mileage, even though it would only be making it equal, they’d never do because it would work against their narrative to push ppl to EVs.

Them same ppl who can’t think for themselves would see it as “wait I have to pay a mileage tax if I buy an EV? What a rip off”

That’s horrible! Almost as bad as the pic of Anderson Cooper standing in a ditch of water when reporting on the hurricane.

Take some deep breaths. It will be ok. I only criticized Trump once.
