meat shortage?

Middleman bottleneck.

Looking at international news, a similar bottleneck started happening in India two weeks ago.

100%. You can sell all day long but if there is no one to process it, then the product cannot be bought.

The demand has also dropped across various industries and that is hurting those producers significantly. Look at dairy, a large portion of those producers sell to restaurants and schools and that demand has all but dried up. Consequently, they are dumping milk because they don't have a buyer. Meat is hurting in that respect too. I fear for the producers because they still have to keep that animal fed, medicated and that costs money...largely out of their pockets.

Commercial sales have dried up while retail sales are exploding.

I'm wondering if some of the overages from dairy and produce production are because there is less food being wasted by consumers.

I'm glad I stocked up on bacon a couple weeks ago, that's the only panic buying I did. I also have a freezer half full of prime rib and half full of elk burger. But I might have to find a local rancher that's hurting and wants to make a deal on a whole beef. Maybe I can work in some broadhead testing at the same time.

Here's a good article with a little background info...

I’m in Orange County California and after everyone finished buying up 2 years worth of toilet paper they switched to chest freezers and hit the meat aisles.

You can’t find a chest freezer in a store within 2 hours of here. And they’re being resold (and selling) on OfferUp and Craigslist for 3 times their cost.

People are bored and have too much discretionary income here.

You still can't buy toilet paper in Western South Dakota.

I was at Costco here yesterday and they had at least a truckload of pallets full in the front of the store. Didn't buy any, and haven't bought any since this all started. I guess we were already well supplied.

I don't need any, thanks for the offer. It just still befuddles me that it is unavailable?

Talked to a guy that works for P&G the other day and he said they are pumping out TP 24/7. They have been waiting on trucks to take it. Must be a conspiracy. I bet the Government is buying it all and dumping it in the ocean.

Tell him they need to start packing that stuff in a camo box labeled Backcountry rescue squares and ship it to sporting goods store so we dont have to fight the freakin hoarders.

I'm thinking that we aren't getting many shipments out here because of population. They are diverting to larger areas.

Every store out here, the paper and dishwashing detergent isles are completely empty.

Had to send my Dad spray Lysol, nitrile gloves and disinfecting wipes because they aren't available in Fort Lauderdale FL. Meat and produce are in the grocery stores so far.

I am surprised to see the gloves already being a pain point. We sell a ton of these to dairies and have been fighting to even get them from the manufacturers due to a shortage in some of the raw materials. I didn't realize that was already filtering down to consumers.

Our local Sams has no toilet paper or dishwashing detergent. They have palates of nitrile exam gloves.

I haven't really seen any shortages here in NE SD except initially for face masks.Sadly I did however lose a Mn High School classmate and old hunting buddy to Covid yesterday.
