Could someone explain paint pen screws and nail polish?
Loctite 242 cures anaerobically. Guys have had issues with it failing to cure properly. Paint pen and nail polish accomplish the same purpose without the failure to cure potential.

They are also used to witness mark screw heads to monitor for movement.

Regular loctite needs to be void of oxygen to set up correctly, doesn’t always happen on rifles, hence nail polish/paint pen being superior choice, after degreasing of course

Depends, a water based nail polish might get sealed and not cure. I have encountered uncured nail polish on threads a few days later.

Loctite and such cure by a chemical reaction triggered by metal. My understanding is anodized aluminum or metal coated in oil/wax can prevent that reaction.

Blue cures just fine between anodized scope tube and anodized rings, and the excess cures on the tub outside the contact area fine. At least after cleaning with acetone.

Anyway, nail polish and paint pen work. But so does Loctite. Both can fail. Currently I use loctite on surfaces I want to bond and nail polish to witness mark or seal out moisture.

what is the cure time of reg loctite ? I’ve certainly seen some not be cured a few hours out. Nail polish seems to be dry in 15 min or less on threads.

I suppose the follow up is how much does it really matter in the time it takes to cure?

24 hours, I think.

Edit:
Looked it up, 24 hours at room temp. 1 hour at 200 degrees.

I'm looking at getting a Stone Glacier scope cover and it looks like the RS1.2 is right on the edge between a size Medium vs Large. Has anyone gotten one and is there any advice on sizing?

I have a large one of those for mine and it fits well, I am running Tenebraex covers on mine too though.
