I get a pile of them every year from deep water. Shrimp diet. I only keep yellowtail and Lings for my own grub

We got after the trout on the south texas coast again this weekend. Released 11 fish over 26”. My brother in law caught the biggest going 29” and just under 8lbs

I always thought big on trout started at 27 inches. My best is 29 or 30 inches, 9.5#

My mother got a 32”. Trout red snook… That was her magic number. She even got a 32” bonefish.

Had fish kill 10-15 yrs ago and can’t keep a trout over 19” now. We no longer fish for big ones.

How much did the 32” bonefish weigh? I got one that was 9lb in Hawaii the Christmas before last. Headed back this Christmas hoping to get a double digit one.

Big girls are built different and I think 27” with shoulders is a great start.

I would say they are like an ocean walleye. Great white fillets that flake when cooked. Frequently eat shrimp and have a very light flavor that makes for good eats. Fun to catch and good to eat.

I used to fish for them back in the ‘80’s out of Chokoloskee FL, and they were most definitely some of the best tasting fish I’ve ever had. We never caught any even close to 30” though.

9# is a great bonefish. Memory says the fish was 12#.

That has a fun story - she had a fish spool her the night before, fishing off shore after dinner. She was ticked. The next evening we were sitting there and “we’re is mom?”…. Find her locked in battle in the dark. See a fin and net it - giant bonefish. Unhook the fish and dad says to take the hook out. The hook he was seeing in opposite side of mouth was mom’s hook from night before.
