Maven RS1.2 2.5-15x44mm SHR-Mil Q&A

On their website they are listed at 1680, but no currency given…can someone confirm of this is cad or usd?

Also if anyone has ordered from Canada recently, what were duties/taxes/tariffs like?

Thanks!

This is not an attempt at starting a debate over MILS vs MOA, but what MOA version of the RS1.2 does everyone who lives in the MOA world prefer? And why?

I prefer mils and that’s all I’m familiar with. That said, this thread from the optics forum may be helpful if you’re set on MOA.

He nitpicked the stuff I don't like and would change immediately if I was responsible for it:
- dump the defective illuminated reticle and make a single function side focus turret that matches the other 2 turrets
- add locking turret

I don't think "deers" is a word.

Honestly what I was most interested in was eyebox and he seemed to think it's quite good. I didn't realize how much my Razor 6-36x56 was spoiling me on eyebox until recently. My RS1.2 ships out today.

Yep.

I’ve never once put a battery in single one of my Mavens for illumination. It is simply not needed and hasn't caused me to “miss an animal” yet (including coyotes and other varmints at full sun down).

They’ve been used in every “lighting” and “terrain” imaginable and it’s just not a feature that is needed for big game hunting.

The locking elevation turret would be helpful, especially with how aggressive the knurling on these knobs are. I’ve taken my scope out many times to find it dialed itself while riding in back seats with other gear. The zero stop is a good feature and I’ve learned to be more deliberate with ensuring RTZ as apart of my shot process.

I’m not sure if illumination doesn’t hurt your lowlight vision. If it is bright enough to shine light into your pupil, then wouldn’t it be similar to getting a headlamp shined into your face? Albeit at a much smaller scale.

Just an untested thought.

It does, but at night, for those of us without shooting hour restrictions, very dim illumination is required to make out the reticle on dark background. S&B does this very well, the lowest 2-3 setting are not visible illumination, even at 30 minutes after sunset. The lowest illumination is not really visible on clear nights with any moon (if my memory serves, I sold the S&B and did not keep records).

Nightforce digillum especially in green is really nice.

I use it for 30 mins-1hour after legal sunset here for deer at the lowest setting.

Whatever they are installing in the Maven is junk compared to the overall quality of the scope.

I think the illumination on the maven is spot on. Just enough to give you a reference in very low light. If you have to turn it up to the point you can see it bleed, you probably don't need it.

Agree. These aren't LPVOs on 1x where people want "daylight bright" because they got accustomed to EOTechs or red dots. At night, anything more than barely showing up will wash things out and possibly even diminish your night vision.
