I bet it was fun dealing with him stuck like that.300 win mag 208 eldm at 680 yards dropped the elk in place and he rolled down hill under a log.

Sarcasm alert!!280 ai, 600+ yards, Hornady Precision Hunter ammo.
This is the offside where the hide caught the bullet. Sloshy insides. One shot kill, and he died within yards of impact.

You might not have had the same results with an 80 grain bullet out of a 6mm, but what about the 22 cal 77 gr TMK? Based on the 500+ pages on the subject, complete with 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one*, it sounds like you could have stretched your range a bit farther with the TMK.Here is an elk shot at 656 yards with a 7/300 NMI and a 195 Berger. Purposefully shot in the shoulder to try to anchor him so that he did not fall down into the ravine (nightmare pack out)
No exit to show, smashed through shoulder and the shrapnel and energy caused immediate death and drop to the ground - 700 Lb elk
Would an 80 grain bullet out of a 6mm accomplished that?
Maybe - without actually trying it who would knowYou might not have had the same results with an 80 grain bullet out of a 6mm, but what about the 22 cal 77 gr TMK? *Sorry, but I had to throw in a little Arlo Guthrie.

Seems like I knew what I was going to hit a 6" spot at 656 off a sitting rest in the fieldFirst of all, those of us who know what we are doing won’t be using 80 grain bullets out of our 6mm caliber rifles.
With a 108, 109, or 115 grain bullet, I wouldn’t hesitate to take the same shot and would expect, and get, the same result. Do you think there is something magical about elk shoulders that stop bullets less than 7mm in diameter?
I was.Hope you were kidding LOL
It's not that it can't, but it is easier to shoot smaller calibers. Which is why I now have a 25 cal magnum with shorter barrel that beats the ballistics of this rifle. And, I still have a 7mm mag in my safe.Sarcasm alert!!
But how were you able to shoot accurately with a caliber larger than 6mm?? I have heard it cannot be done with any reliability
This was a 7mm Berger hunting 180 vld at 730 yards. 3050ish mv. 7 Sherman Short. Here is the video. I don't know how you can argue with a bullet that will go through 26" inches of vitals and gut, and then blow a giant hole in the offside leg. Look close at the hole filled with grass... nasty. The pics of the jacket were recovered in the ham. Deer ran maybe 50 yards and piled up.

Appreciate your opinion - small calibers are more comfortable to shoot. Large calibers make bigger holes and transfer more energy, but do have more recoil. It's not that it can't, but it is easier to shoot smaller calibers.
