I wish the 300 WSM would get it's relaunch (300 PRC 2?) Every caliber got remade but the 30 cal...

I swear I watched a video that some guys made a "super wsm" and used that bullet and it just penciled right through all the gel without expanding time after time. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.
The gel they used wasnt the right type. When they added a bag of water in front it performed well or they changed gel type, i can't recall.

It would have been a different video before the one I posted. I forgot about that one but the other guys who posted are correct it was a gel issue and was at very long range. Once they figured it out there were no other issues with expansion.

I’d love to see a “300 Backcountry” that could match the velocities of my 24” 300wsm using a 16-18” barrel. Considering how far suppressors have come in terms of weight and size I can’t think of a better setup for my uses.

I’ve been quite happy with my 300 WSM Montana. I had it cut to 20” and am sending 180 EH at 2875. Somehow the Norma factory 180 bond strikes are still hitting 2975 in this short barrel, if I could get the Berger there (possible with RL26, but it would be cheaper to rebarrel this rifle than to track down an 8# jug right now) I’d be thrilled. With a suppressor the recoil isn’t bad, even at 8.5 pounds scopes and suppressed. The only other 30 I’d likely move to is a Sherman or jump to the 300 PRC, which is just more rifle than I need. The 300 wsm still has a heavy following for a reason. Custom builds with faster twists and appropriate action/mag lengths really bring it back to life.

One of these days I’ll grab a UM OG suppressor for this rifle, and then it really will be my ultimate light hunting rifle.

I built my 300 “super” WSM last year while playing with copper mono options for longer range meat hunting. Mine was built to take advantage of the Hammer 192gr HBC in a Medium action using a Ti-X action and UM’s DBM and magazine.

1:8 twist, throated for the 192HBC seated all the way out (just shy of the 3.260” mag length). Also ends up with about a 3.2” COAL for other lead bullets like the 210 ABLR if you aren’t into monos.

Lots of factory chamber rifle options in 300WSM, Tikka even recently updated their twist to 1:10 and has the action length to support any COAL you want to run. ADG and Lapua both make brass, good dies are readily available. Factory ammo availability at SAAMI spec is decent. What’s not to like here?

I was between a 300wsm and a 300prc. I'm glad I chose the PRC personally. It's one of my most accurate rifles and if I'm going into a long action anyway, why not just go with the PRC? Less niche with the same results equals easier loading and component availability. I only shoot handloads but know that I could fall back into some factory stuff if needed and it would perform great.

I don't see many options in revitalizing the 30cal. The longer bullets push you out of a lot of options as brought up previously.

When my son was 16 we bought him a 300 WSM in a Winchester Model 70 EWSS. He's 30 now. We scoped it with a Zeiss with the ballistic reticle good to 600 yards. It's a great rifle and it shoots very well. I'm loading 180 gr. Nosler Accubonds in it and it works very well on game and is accurate. I don't see us messing with heavier bullets or changing out the barrel for a faster twist rate. It works very well as it sits now!
