Informal Cold Bore Challenge

I had another errant thought too about the rock. This is more about my own shooting. But my instinct on a very similar shot and range last summer was to take the rock but in hindsight I wonder if it's a better hit rate to just stick to your training and use your pack and what you have on you instead of trying to incorporate the rock into the shot position. I'm probably over thinking it.
I think you might be onto something.

Shooting off rocks seems like the natural thing to do but hit rate is gonna be best with whatever is trained/practiced.

I had the same situation last year, shot a doe from a weird standing position on a big rock. Rather than using the pack I used a soft front bag on top of the boulder. It worked fine for a 190ish yard shot but while I was giving her a few minutes to die I realized I could have just proned out right next to the rock lol.

All the more reason to keep practicing!
Between wind and positional shooting i get humbled every time I go out.

I didn't shoot a normal cold bore shot practice yesterday. I did shoot a group with different ammo to see what my 223 thought of it. No go. They don't agree.
I did get a chance for a realistic scenario to practice in.
1st shot was from seated with the rifle over my knee. Distance was about 25 yds. Definitely a hit. The following shots were standing and supported by an oak tree 2nd was around 60 yds. Hit on that one too. 3rd was at 75 yds or so. That target is going in the smoker. 4th shot was also a hit. He wasn't available for pic.
