I have been assigned number 43583. Random apparently. Not optimistic.
I had #614 when I got in there want much left. I couldnt believe it. The areas I wanted there was about 1200 tags. The system is a jokeI have been assigned number 43583. Random apparently. Not optimistic.
Some of the same issues as the last few years that others have commented on. I will say this about online tags, the on line system was a lot faster this year and it did not kick me out and make me start over line like I have had to when trying to use the online system to purchase tags in the past. I had a 17500 number at 10AM and was done with tags ordered and paid for right at 11:30 AM. No glitches, the system moved a along pretty good for a change. I usually just drive over from WA state since, I don't live that far away. I was not feeling real well today and decided to try the on line system. It worked for me.
I too would like know how all the DAV deer and elk tags go so fast. It does not seem quite right to me.
Same here, 46280 and hunt partner 4900. When his number hit our first choice Salmon B was gone. Our back up plan based on my number was Middle Fork. By time my number hit, like you all gone. Kept refreshing and it came up and I was to slow and it was gone. 5 mins later it showed up again and I got it. No deer tag, but at least I will have somewhere to go.First time going through the process, got in line late 52k or something, when I finally got through the queue nothing left. Refreshed the page 10 min later and had tags I wanted available and purchased.
Wow, that's crazy. Wonder what's going on there? The tags can't be transferred except in very limited familial circumstances. Must be friends/relatives helping to hold places in line, with the actual purchaser showing up right before the door opens.Talked with a friend at F&G last night. He said people had been waiting at his office since Sunday and in Salmon they had been waiting since LAST Wednesday. Outside the door. Zero degree lows.
That’s dedication…
This plus add in all sorts of vet groups telling people about the cheap tags in Idaho.Lots of veterans like to hunt and none of them get out without a disability rating.

Nope, it's pretty simple. Tagholder need not be present to purchase. If you have somebody's license number you can buy them a tag (tbh, I'm not even sure you need their license, you may be able to buy it then as well). Lots of people buying tags for lots and lots of other people.Wow, that's crazy. Wonder what's going on there? The tags can't be transferred except in very limited familial circumstances. Thanks for the info - makes sense now. I didn't know that's how it works. Should have done that for my brother last year when he tried to get an NR elk tag. But I wouldn't have camped out for it....Nope, it's pretty simple. Tagholder need not be present to purchase. A non res deer tag is about tree fiddy.Do they have to pay for the tag? What’s a NR tag cost? 700? 70x40 tags is 28,000 dollars. Not a lot of guys are putting 28k on their CC, or even have that limit!
Yup, you have to pay. Yes, if one person buys 10 NR elk tags, that is $6,517.50. Yup, better make sure the 'ol credit card has the room on it.Do they have to pay for the tag? I’d be more concerned with chasing my 20-30k.Imagine the cash back/points.
Yes, you do have to pay, and vendors will print out a few tags before they run a card or collect cash, and credit cards often balk at an irregular charge of a few thousand dollars, especially when it's out of state. It happens to me, and I live in Idaho.Do they have to pay for the tag? What’s a NR tag cost? 700? 70x40 tags is 28,000 dollars. Not a lot of guys are putting 28k on their CC, or even have that limit!
If I was going to do it, you would prepay for the tag and the convenience fee. If you didn't get your desired tag, you get your tag fee back but I did my job and no refunds on the convenience fee. Nobody rides for free. In my opinion, it should be 100% over the counter in person purchase by the person the tag is licensed to. I wish Montana didn't even have online license purchases or drawing sign ups. Hunting went to shit when you no longer had to pay your full license fee just to be put in the drawing. You had to be serious about wanting to hunt and have the cash to back it up. Now anyone with $25 can apply for permits and they don't have to pay anything but the drawing fee. They don't have any skin in the game. This goes for both resident and nonresident hunters.I’d be more concerned with chasing my 20-30k.
Even if you make people pay it up front, its pretty easy to find 6-12 month no interest credit cards. I know people that do this. Apply for a 6 month no interest credit card, put all applications fees on it, make payments over 6 months. Costs them nothing to do so.If I was going to do it, you would prepay for the tag and the convenience fee.
