I think western hunting is a fad that will eventually die down, it has gotten popular with social media and shows like meateater going on netflix. Duck hunting blew up when duck commander was a popular show, duck hunting now seems to be less popular than it was 10 years ago.
We get hit with another recession like 2008 and people can’t afford to come out west to hunt then the insanity will stop.

People coming realization that general/otc tags on public land aren’t anything like what you were sold on YouTube is something else that I think will help. Fishing a secluded high country lake is magnitudes more enjoyable than calling in more people than elk.

Duck hunting is/was no different. Videos of hundreds of mallards pouring into the timber got a whole lot of people to spend a whole lot of money. People found out pretty quick that freezing cold and not shooting a thing ain’t all it’s quacked up to be.

Based on actual numbers, it seems you are correct about the decline in waterfowl popularity. Anecdotally, most everyone reports the opposite experience which is likely explained by ever-decreasing availability of places to hunt.

As far as Western big game, perhaps you will be correct, but I've only seen the trend go one way in my lifetime.

Wow, that's crazy. Wonder what's going on there? The tags can't be transferred except in very limited familial circumstances. Must be friends/relatives helping to hold places in line, with the actual purchaser showing up right before the door opens.
Nothing other than Dads waiting in line to buy a tag, and to get our sons tags. We did not buy tags for others and were not paid by our sons to get their tags. Yes, it was cold and miserable, but we get to hunt with our boys next Sept.

Hopefully Idaho F&G sees this;

You have many people getting paid to wait in line and buy tags for others. You have created an illicit market for this.

Its an easy solution;
Allow residents to buy tags for family only.
Non residents can either buy a tag in person or online

Having non res will boost the Idaho economy as the avg non res will rent a car, hotel room and eat at restaurants
