Eventually weather it's by reitroducon or natural migration grizzlies will return to their native range Including Colorado with the later it will be reintrdction by humans like I said earlier there are people that are alrady working on it and just like The wolf reintroduction they are going to do it by ballot box and seeing how the wolf reintroducion went grizzly reintroduction will go the same route not saying it's right just saying it is being worked on

TThere's no way to just have things like they were pre-colonial

Never said we should ,but some on here think certain species should be wiped out because they are afraid of them or they compete with humans and dont like competition
There needs to be a balance some do not want balance they want it their way and their way only they have the mindset that anything that threatens their lifestyle needs to be eliminated and I'm NOT ok with that mindset

Its not going to get far if you start throwing insults on post #3. Lets have an adult convo, we can do it.

I have plenty of experience with black bears...have been charged 2x and a couple other interesting interactions. I also backpacked into Yellowstone and hammock camped with an ex gf and were pushed out of camp by a grizzly at 2am.

Also- lets play your logic out. Don't want to go wander the African savanna by your self? Or swim in a river where Hippos kill a few people a year? Come on man - Don't be a puss, you don't have any interactions to really form an opinion so what are you whining about?

Well after 6 pages its gone about how one would expect...

In an effort to not dilute Rokslide anymore than its already become and to stay on topic with the OP.

You have very little experience with Grizzly/Brown bears. It's apparent in the way you talk about interactions or lack thereof. Now, that doesn't mean that as a hunter, outdoorsman, nor a US citizen that you don't have a right to say how those species are managed, but I am unbothered by the expansion of Grizzly's in the L48, nor participating in field activities in AK. Should they offer hunts in MT, WY, ID? Yes, I do think so.

If they offer hunts there is that going to change all the statistics or odds you've thrown out of decreasing your chances of having a negative interaction with a bear? Nope.

If I don’t see bears when I go out for a hike or a hunt I consider it a disappointment. I would never want to live anywhere without them.
That’s not the issue we are discussing, that’s fine but what about the people’s states where they aren’t currently and they would not want to deal with them. No one is asking to take away your experience.

I was just watching a Meateater YouTube vid where Cal is helping with some Grizzlies in Idaho and while I have put a lot of time into conservation personally I just can't get behind the grizzly push. There is already a lot of risk in the back country as it is and I saw what that grizzly did to Leonardo DiCaprio. What bothers me the most is that it seems most maulings the person didn't even have a chance to react. The bear bursts out of a bush and boom. Additionally, having a hunting season open so they at least would have some reason to fear us would be a massive uphill battle.

So we are encouraging a creature that we don't stand a chance against, that's highly aggressive, and has learned to not fear us. If you haven't seen one up close go to a zoo that has one and you will realize how insignificant you are compared to a full grown grizzly. In 15 years, they will have expanded to a large chunk of the Rockies. Why should my wife and kids risk being burdened with my death for me to go hunting?
Not really a well thought out argument. I'm no hippy, and I'm not into reintroducing anything anywhere to be honest. But the bears are supposed to be there. Kind of ridiculous to insinuate they shouldnt be there just so you can feel safer recreating.

really i have a friend that has several venomous snakes and has kids (he has an exotic snake license ) knowing what your doing and teaching kids not to go near or handle them is the key
same with bears
Don’t put your hand in the snakes habitat to be safe, so to your logic that means don’t go in the bear’s habitat? Ok, you can stay in your house then. I personally want to continue to go in the woods but take care of the bear problem.
These aren’t pets in an aquarium, wild free ranging
my wife and i have recreated outside everyday in one of the heaviest grizzly infested areas of montane for 38 yrs and we have never been attacked
people i alaska live with brown bears(which are 5 times more temperamental and twice as big as any lower 48 grizzly() and interior grizzlies dailey they don't stay inside because they are afraid to get attacked they learn to adapt learn their habitat and what to do and not do when they encounter one
like anything else in nature they have their place
and they were here long before the first settlers ever stepped foot in montana
don't want to deal with grizzlies move to a state that doesn't have them
you have a greater chance of getting attacked by a shark then a grizzlywhy even deal with it? That’s my point. If you have a method of controlling their numbers, let’s do that and mitigate the number of encounters. If I were to play Russian roulette with a gun that had one bullet in the cylinder vs. five- I’m taking my chances with the gun loaded with one bullet. You can say all the heck you want about living among bears and practicing due diligence, but your fooling yourself with a false sense of security. It’s up to the bear when and who he wants to eat, you have zero say in that matter. The best you can hope for is you can get a lucky bullet to connect.

What’s with all your little underhanded comments? Dilute rokslide? Your previous comment I responded to? ….Are you from the west coast? That’s what they do, little passive aggressive comments and then act like the other party is uncivilized when they are finally called out. Basing your opinion on “ oh I’ve seen more bears than you” Then you make fun of someone trying to bring some sort of data to the conversation so it’s less abstract. That’s arguing like my 6 year old with his peers in kindergarten.

I truly appreciate peoples opinions they have provided even if they don’t agree with me. I ask these questions to understand others perspectives. Doesn’t mean I won’t debate but i want to know what I’m missing. I might leave the interaction with my opinion unchanged but I still respect the person on the other side.

You’re house is supposed to be their habitat too, our forefathers just extirpated them for you. The “stay out of their habitat, then” rebuttal is so incredibly ignorant when talking about terrestrial wildlife and human interactions.

They are already in Idaho. They aren't being reintroduced anywhere.

When they cross man man borders they don't know about, the respective state can work with the Feds to determine what due course may be.

The comment “ They are supposed to be here” is debatable at the onset. Based on what? Animal ranges change constantly without human impact. So to an idealistic state in time of maximum? Also debated is whether people who want something in one state or area should be able to push it onto others. Also, how much control over our environment is allowed, where is the line? Saying bears are supposed to be here is weak to me because it disregards everything else that is continually wiped out for us to exist including wildlife and habitat. You are only applying that argument to bears but disregarding it’s relevance to everything else.

I think everyone with a functioning logical brain can agree that they are not endangered in MT & WY. I'll even leave ID out of this discussion. There's approximately 2,500 + bears in these two states combined (that breed and produce additional bears every year btw). What's the harm in issuing a handful of tags, say 10 or so for each state? Auction off half of them to the highest bidder and sell the remaining tags 8 to resident / 2 to nonresidents with a 100% random draw. There would be tons of money raised for G bear research, etc., and throw us a bone to be able to hunt them. Try it one year only & reassess it to determine if / when it should be done again or not.
If you need something to sweeten the pot for the lib judges, we'll trap 2 more bears & do gender reassignment surgery on them

I didnt limit my opinion to reintroductions and we both know that states and the feds have many many roadblocks to do anything logical with wildlife.

I respect everyone's views we just see things differently I think they should be allowed to expand you and most on here don't at the end of the day the facts are grizzlys will be reinduced to thier native range including Coloradojust like wolves like it or not we will agree to disagree and go out separate ways
You have a wonderful summer

I'm not making fun of you. Realistically, one could read your original post and compare them to trolling posts and find similarities. And yes, Rokslide has diluted over the years from the first few years of it's inception where guys came together to share hunting stories and gear failures and success. Now we have threads like this that spin in circles for pages and pages and pages- hence the "see where this goes" comment Generally speaking, its from people who have little to no experience recreating in country inhabited by bears.

I find it in a similar vein as, "New York shouldn't tell rural MT what to do with wolves" but now you're saying how States and the people of those states should handle their wildlife to make you feel safer in the woods.

If you don't like bears, then don't recreate where bears are, and work with your State to actively manage that species when they cross borders they can't read on a map.

I would wager that if you moved to MT, WY, eastern ID or AK your perception of the risk you take being mauled would greatly change.
