This group came to Taos a year or so ago - didn't seem like it was as bad as anticipated because the authorities tried to get in front of it. The previous time they came out they did leave a huge mess and thrash the forest area pretty bad.

Everyone was in a panic when they showed up here too, but it was pretty uneventful… whole lotta wasted emotion IMO

If a person chooses to, you can read yourself into hysteria any day of the week… the world is ending in a different way every day… good people are keeping the hype rolling though… it reminds me of…. This song was ahead of its time

They crashed our town a few years back, we have a hot spring about 10 miles out of town on forest land, anyway I come around the corner to see about 50 of them all nude laying around playing music and drinking. The horror of seeing 50 nude hippies laying in dirt is etched in my brain.

They have no respect for the land they hold their gatherings on.. If you have the unfortunate opportunity to be on duty or have to deal with these folks, I suggest you do it on well trained horses. It's the only way to move throughout them without them mobbing you. They love to surround you and give you their love and hugs and direct you away from the illegal activities going on. They will still try if you are on horseback, hence having a well trained horse you can just push through them.. Good luck to whoever gets that assignment.

Funny you mention being on horseback, Because we were. I was part of the State Police Triatic Mounted unit. 6-up as the hippies would say. We roamed throughout the gathering for 2 weeks. Never had an issue with any of them. Though one did think he was a snake charmer, and was bitten by a rattle snake.

We witnessed a lot of marijuana being used, we had also been told not to enforce the laws being broken for it.

They've been on the national forest land around West Michigan several times. Last time they were here it turned out to be one of the more difficult weeks that I've had doing hospital security. I had more use of force reports in that week than Ive ever had. Bunch of stinky, dirty hippies dropping acid and making suicidal comments. If I'm remembering correctly some local boys made it not fun anymore and they moved out pretty quickly.

They trashed the ANF here in PA last year. Here's a quote from NFS ranger:

"All visitors to the national forest are expected to obey federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and we take the equitable enforcement of these laws seriously.”

WTF is "equitable enforcement"? I'll tell you what it is. Turning a blind eye to the crime and trashing of a NF. Pretty sure that sh!t would not be tolerated from any other group.

The gathering was held in the Beaverhead along the Idaho/MT border in 2013.

I remember finding a group of about a dozen hippies laying down in various states of undress all tangled up together, right in the middle of the thickest patch of riparian poison ivy I had ever seen. I tried to let them know and couldn't get a word in over the chanting.

That brand of hippy is kind of like a toddler, where there is an endearing helplessness and a naivety I'm kind of jealous of. But a whole tent city of them is a bad scene. Especially given the lack of potty training.

Exact location is TBD. Walden / Rand / Granby have been floated. As has Table Mountain in Golden which would be exceedingly stupid location for a weeks long campout in July, even by their standards.

It's interesting that these "get togethers" have happened every year for a couple of decades at least and in most cases bring a lot of problems with it, many lasting long after the event.

They are almost always on National Forest lands (varying the states). Why would the Forest Service, knowing from at least two decades of experience, even consider permitting the gatherings?

Deny the permit. If they insist on coming anyways, arrest those that don't leave.
