What if cops had a different stigma? What if the average law abiding persons only reactions with cops were not negative on average (tickets, etc) so that the public (good guys) were less worried about the cops. Also what if because of this proposed change in public perspective a cop could offer the drunk guy a ride home rather than his only option be to ruin his life with an arrest/DUI? What if a cops goal was to prevent issues rather than just catch people and fine them?

Wouldn't that change the tide of public opinion? Even with the defund crowd?
1: SCOTUS has ruled the function of law enforcement is to....enforce the law. It’s up to your elected legislators to propose/change the law. There is no duty to do anything otherwise.

2: The cop didn’t ruin anyone’s life when they initiated the arrest. The person’s behavior took care of that. People need to take ownership of their actions and the resulting consequences.

Of course I sympathize with folks who have lost loved ones and have incurred damage because of jackasses. I myself have also suffered related losses. BUT here is the deal in my mind - a drunk who might cause a problem on the way home is no different principally than a gun owner who might use his device to hurt someone. I am opposed to all forms of pre-emptive policing. Just like I am opposed to someone taking away my firearms because they could be potentially mis-used.

While you may not agree with my perspective do you follow my thought process?

Im trying to follow your train of thought, but i dont know if getting caught driving under is influence could really be called preemptive policing, cause you've already broken the law and could kill someone or yourself. And surely even more people would be repeatedly drunk driving if there they didn't get in trouble for it. Its pretty rare that people get a DUI the very first time they drive under the influence but i actually went to school with a guy that did. Preemptive policing in that context would be more like if you drive to a bar and got drunk and got arrested while still in the bar before driving again, not if you get caught red handed driving drunk. Totally different. No doubt a DUI can ruin your life but im not sure if your alternative is any better. Theres a reason they made the punishments for that stricter. It used to be a slap on the wrist and a small fine and that obviously wasn't working.

As far as guns go i do agree with you if you are a law abiding citizen that has done nothing wrong. But if you apply your logic as i understand if someone get tackled while they're about commit a murder with a gun, they should be able to keep that gun and go about their day and not be charged with attempted murder?

Reading through some of these comments makes me remember why so many gun people think hunters are fuds.

Growing up not hunting (nobody in my family did) but being into guns, many view hunters as fuds. Seems to many in here, being anti-gun is fine because they aren't coming for your bow or bolt gun. Eventually, they will. Being into guns actually got me into hunting.

My public land hunting gun here in IN is a 458 socom AR15 with a brace (12in barrel). This directly affects me and my hunting.
Yeah no shit tell the hog hunters in texas that ar-15's cant be used for hunting lol. I also got into hunting years after i got into guns and i get your perspective. We're not only up against the anti gun crowd but the aninal rights crowd. The argument has already been put forth in the past by them that bowhunting isn't as lethal as a gun therefore isnt ethical. Death of a thousand cuts!

Ok there is a key distinction here, if there is threatening behavior implying an immediate threat there is already precedent for a justified intervention. If someone is swerving all over the road, that (in my opinion) is very similar to a thug waving a gun around.

Exactly. Both broke the law, both could've and quite possibly would've killed someone, swerving or not. Both get arrested as i think they should. Thats very different than either getting arrested or having rights taken away BEFORE breaking the law. Cops have enough on their plate, they cant be free uber drivers for all the drunks on taxpayers dime too lol

Remove all major very liberal cities (most restrictive on guns as well) from the stats and we pretty much have nonexistent gun violence in this country.
That’s why I said to remove the top 2 demographics. That’s where the majority reside.

If d's would stop talking about guns and abortion r's would never win again.
The Rs will never win again anyways. Hell, is there even a republican party now? seems like scandal after scandal, constant and valid discrediting of Rs. Unless something changed drastically, I just dont see it happening again.

This, plus they've let enough illegals in to cover all the made up fake votes they used last election. They got names and DOBs to match now, not that they wouldn't have made it up anyways.

Biden (well, not Biden. He can't figure out what foot which shoe goes on without help. The socialist/globalist cabal in the shadows pulling his puppet strings) today has ordered a "study" of the Supreme Court and number of Justices. You know where this is leading, the America hating socialists not only want control of the Executive and Legislative Branches, but the Judicial as well.
A little secret........, they plan to come for much more than just your guns.......

Well as long as some guy on the internet tells me he knows a "little secret" that the global elite dosent want us to know, then I guess I believe it.

Could have used a bomb, could have used a plane, could have used a car.

Common responses. It’s almost always a legally purchased firearm.
As a firearms owner and self described gun expert do you think that dangerous AR 14's should be banned and that the AFT should receive a higher budget? If you bring a "ghost gun" in your house will the "ghost gun" start haunting your house?

I saw dementia joe's recent anti gun speech and just wondering. What an inspirational and intelligent leader. I miss ol dog faced pony soldier though

Tell that to the parents and family members of the 20 kids killed at Sandy Hook

Or the other kids/staff in the building that day. Or the 22,000 at the concert in Vegas.
What would you say to the parents and children just murdered by an Islamic terrorist in Boulder?

The more I think about it, the more I think the ghost gun thing wasn’t really about ghost guns themselves, buy a psy-ops move to implant the idea in (D) constituents’ heads that there is an heretofore unknown and unseen gun threat that they should be afraid of; this in order to keep them feeding at the trough of their liberal saviours.

pay attention to how the phrase “ghost guns” will increase in conversations from here on out by Joe Average Guy. That shows the operation is working. This is a new boogy man...lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike at any moment...

People who know anything about guns know this is a red herring, but what does that say about our fearless leaders’ impression of the very people who put him in office? They are dolts - useful idiots - that’s what it says about them.

The guy was a psychopath and of he didn't have access to a gun he would have come up with something else.
Exactly, all the people just out to kill anyone are psychopaths and gun laws will never stop the mentally ill, crazy and evil from doing harm to others, heck no laws will, they will always find a way. I mean it’s illegal to kill, criminals don’t follow laws.

You’re right to drive is not guaranteed.

People can fail background checks for many reasons and most have no recourse.
