Dead Air Nomad Ti XC

Has anyone tried a sico titanium direct thread mount on a nomad xc?

I'm wondering if there is any reason why it wouldn't work.

It would be awesome to not add any length to the ti xc and keep it at 6.3".

If it is a standard hub mount it will work. I switched from Xeno to DT for mine. Less weight and for sure less length. But I used the DA DT hub.

Yes I know the thread will work, but I was thinking about the depth the muzzle would go into the canyon. Since it is completely flush, it would be at least 1/4" or maybe almost 1/2" further in there compared to the DA direct thread. I wondered that could be a problem.

Sorry, should have been more specific

Edit: the muzzle end would be about 0.4" further in the can using the sico hub DT compared to the DA DT and according to the specs on DAs site

After reading about and looking at a few pictures of titanium blast baffle erosion, I think having the muzzle further inside the can could potentially contribute to increased erosion even if it is shot slowly and kept cool. So I may just go with the diligent defense DT mount instead of trying the sico. I have a scythe, so if I wanted to I could swap the DT mount between the two cans (when I get my nomad) to test this out, but don't know if I will.

It would be nice if that worked out without issue. Then I would just use the supplied DA mount on my scythe and the sico mount on the nomad, and not have to buy another mount. The scythe is light and short enough and on a 16" 223, so I wouldn't mind if it was an oz heavier and a half inch longer.

Before I order one, any reason to not, or any better suggestions.
Unless they start blowing up like the scythe, I don't see a reason not to if you're looking for one in that size/weight range.

It apparently sounds better than the scythe, is quieter, and can weigh just the same as a scythe and be only about 1/4" longer if you use a diligent defense or rearden DT adapter.

I really like my scythe size and suppression, but wanted to try something different and this fits the bill so I decided to go for it.

I don't know the details on DAs issue with failed cans in the past and reportedly poor CS, but I figured it probably has a better chance of not blowing up since it's 3d printed and I wouldn't be worried too much about a long warranty return since I have a backup

I’d argue almost an inch longer. Flat cap scythe is about 5.8”.

I already have a scythe and figure I’ll get this one before my scythe separates lol. I’ve read that there were horror stories at one time, but also only good things about this can.

What is the best titanium 5/8 DT cap for the ti xc?

Edit: nevermind. I see all the weights going back in the thread.

DD ti 5/8 ~0.9-1oz
Reardan 5/8 supposedly 0.70oz but actual is ~0.9oz
Sico Ti 5/8 ~1oz

I'm a little skeptical on that DD adapter though due to the thread journal length. Shorter than the DA steel adapter
The Diligent depth is a bit less, we'll see I guess.

Ya I was just talking about factory config scythe, which it seems a lot of people think is sufficiently short and light. That flat cap must be a bonus though! I need to get one.

I just meant that if the nomad meters as well it does and can be nearly as short and light as the factory scythe, then it's a winner!

To follow up on using a sico titanium direct thread adapter on the ti xc.... I called them today to ask if there was any reason it wouldn't work and if the blast baffle would experience premature erosion. Very surprisingly, he said if it's bravo threaded then it should thread in just fine and wouldn't be an issue. He said if course the further the muzzle is inside the can when mounted the less ideal, but it shouldn't be a problem. He said if it's on a hunting rifle then no need to worry about erosion. He sounded to be in a hurry, so it was a very short conversation.

I'll probably give it a go when I get mine by swapping my scythe mount with the DA mount and see how it does.

KGM is the issue with Dead Air’s welded cans and since they aren’t involved it should be fine.

For the record I had three sequential Nomad Ti’s sent back, one exploded, a second was cracked and the third didn’t have any issues but had been shot less and was the middle serial number meaning that it most likely had the same issue. KGM took 5 months to fix it and after they shipped it back I found out all of them were full of sand blast media when it completely coated the inside of my barrel and action after the first range trip.

I had to completely tear my rifle apart including removing the barrel, the action from the chassis and disassembling the bolt completely to get all of it out then spent several hours cleaning the suppressors multiple times only to continually find media occasionally in my action for months afterwards. I am thankful that I didn’t put it on my AR or M1A as that would have been a total nightmare to remove.
