The leash laws around me long ago use to say dogs MUST be on a leash or always under control. When I had dogs, they were always under control. So I and my dogs every much enjoyed the freedom of the way the law was written. However, due to the vast majority of irresponsible dog owners, the leash laws here have changed and now demand all dogs ALWAYS be on leash. The laws here also require dog owners to pick up and properly dispose of their dogs poop. Unfortunately, if you walk any popular trail around where I live, you can see plenty of dog poo, so much that you need to keep an eye out for it.

On the other hand, if you take a drive into the local mountains surrounding Los Angeles (thank god I live in a northern suburb), dogs off leash is not the main issue. The main issue is the crap filled diapers that line all day use areas and creeks. The problem is so bad that you really can not conceive how bad it is unless you actually see it in person. But in short, there is no way I will walk anywhere near those areas.

However, above there is plenty of reason for leash laws in Co. THat movie saying comes to mind: momma always said, stupid is as stupid does. Thus the need for more and more laws and regulations.

Well one time I seen three doe putting pressuring on one of my parents cats, pushing him across the field. Circling him, trying to intimidate him. Sylvester held his own, but who's standing up for Sylvester?! He's gotta get picked on just because he's a smaller breed of a predator race?! He's a cool cat, he doesn't deserve that pressure from these deer!

"nature's delicate balance" It isn't a delicate balance, it's a robust balance that survives through predation, drought, wet, heat, freezing, fire, etc..

Damn Sir, we think alike. Turns out Sylvester does like venison. Won't touch it cooked though

And this is why I avoid crowded trail heads like the plague when taking my dogs for a walk.
Already this winter my dogs on leash were attacked by unleashed dogs described as "friendly" by the owners, things got crazy when I pinned the Great Dane to the ground by its neck, owner looked at me like I was nuts, the other dog didn't fare too well either. If you have aggressive dogs please keep them them on leash in populated areas.

As a person who has worked for years in a natural setting with a large human-wildlife interface, I can feel pretty darn confident that dogs sure can be an issue for wildlife. I have personally witnessed whitetail ran into a road and hit by a car while being chased by a border collie.

While the interface I was in was not backcountry, with the amounts we would see dogs chase deer, grouse, bears, and anything else they could in our strict on-leash areas, I am sure they would be very detrimental especially while on winter ranges and already depleted.

As for the Instagram post being some Liberal overreach, come on. Get more familiar with wildlife management before attempting to attack based on partisanship. That would be darn close to fueling Democrat argument of Repubs denying science to do whatever we want.

I don’t know if this new cpw thing is justified but what I do know is that I’m sick of ppl thinking their dogs are never a problem.

I did a seasonal ups driver position and the # of people who have unbearably terribly behaved dogs is 10-1 of a decently behaved animal. So many think their dogs are loved by all. They’re downright terrifying. I have dog allergies and severe allergies to being mauled. My own dog isn’t an angel but I’m careful to keep him reigned in.

None likes your dog like you do.
None wants your dog in their business.
None wants your dog doing anything other than being YOUR constrained companion.

PS quit letting your dog out when the package carrier shows up. It’s a massive liability to us for bites and running your little angel over.

Watched an off leash dog in a wilderness area jump a fawn close to the trail and chase it down while the owner screamed her head off. Eventually heard the fawn bleating. Dog ended up maiming it. With our mule deer population around here declining I was hoping the doe would show up and stomp the dog into the dirt. I was thinking in designated wilderness dogs had to be on leash or under voice control. Most people can't control their dogs with voice control. The instinct to chase is too strong.

This is so dumb!

Y’all remember that Instagram hero who shot the two German Shepard’s as wolves? For some reason I couldn’t help but think of that here

I take my kids to a local park occasionally. It’s convenient while their sister is in dance class. Despite leash laws and the requirement to pick up after you’re dog. Seeing someone follow either of these is a rarity. We tried taking pictures by the river there one day and next thing you know my daughter ends up sitting in dog sh!*. I was not happy.

And that right there is the crux of the problem. Everyone thinks their dog is under control until all of a sudden it's not. 90% listening and 10% batshit crazy is not under control.

You want to see an absolute circus? Go hike the front country with the boulderites and their little snowflakes. Boulder county allows off leash with voice control but it sure seems hard to have voice control when the dog is so far down the trail you can't even see it.

nobody seemed to care this year when my lab was running around without a leash. Then again, I didn’t see anybody else post holing at 11k feet in June!17332392-42A0-4EEA-91E1-1DE732F22B39.jpeg

I’m glad I live where I do. With the invent of e collars a dog should never be out of control. Cats are a bigger problem to wildlife here than dogs they kill the shit out of the game birds.

It's that kind of stupidity which prompts us to carry.
You're the guy with the dog that's outta control trying to justify that 'billy behavior.

We should neuter people along with their dogs...

My guess is those shakie hands couldn't hit the broad side of a barn let alone anything on the run.

So many tough guys on here threatening to shoot dogs. Judging by the ammount of posts of "someone help me find my bull I wounded....I swear it was a double lung!" on here, my dog is pretty safe😂
