Nah. I’ve been here a while…just trying to add some humor, seems to have gone over poorly.

I recently listened to mainstream country FM radio, and man, I didn’t think the songs could get worse but they somehow have. “I’ve got a heart like a truck…” blah!

Lots of good recommendations already in this thread, I'll add some of my favorites.


Turnpike Troubadours. My #1, some of the best (if not the best) songwriting in the game and equally as talented musically.


Mike & the Moonpies. Lots of classic country elements, I'm a sucker for some pedal steel.


49 Winchester. Virginia boys who perform very soulful on record and on stage.


Shane Smith & the Saints. Saw them in Richmond, VA two years ago on my birthday, they offered to buy me a beer and hung out after the show. Great dudes who play great music.


Best performance I've ever seen live was Sturgill Simpson during the Sailors Guide to Earth tour.

Koe Wetzel has some really good stuff. He’s a lot like Cross Canadian Ragweed, lots of grunge/90’s rock influences. His newest album has a lot of hard rock to sift through but his prior albums are legit.

Not sure how I forgot these few, but some great music out of Alabama as well:

Jason Isbell/Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit - storytelling and songwriting master
Muscadine Bloodline - great harmonies and getting better in all facets with each album they release
Red Clay Strays - Rising popularity, criminally underrated in my opinion

Someone a while back mentioned Dave Cobb... 100% agreed. Anything he touches seems to agree with my ears whether it be Americana, Country, Rock, etc.

Short list: Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, Brent Cobb, Colter Wall, Whiskey Myers, Rival Sons, Sturgill Simpson, Jamey Johnson, Marcus King Band.
