Corner Crossing: Public Wins!

Good. When he loses again corner crossing will be nation wide. Might even bring more attention to land locked public land
He doesn’t even have to lose. Just have the supremes not take it up. Then the lower court ruling stands. I expect that is what will happen. If they do take it up, expect it to be overturned.

Honestly I don’t see them taking it. They seem to be plenty busy currently. There has been plenty of people that thought the hunters would lose, but they just kept on winning….I like our chances.

Isn't it, at minimum, legal in all of that district?
Yessir!

"Corner crossing remains legal in Oklahoma, Kansas, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah — states covered by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals — said the hunters’ attorney, Ryan Semerad. However, corner crossing remains a legal gray area everywhere else."

Now, if I were one of Fred's many lawyers I'd encourage him to buy some checkerboard land in Nevada and find some folks to prosecute over again. $$$$

I don't think it's over, there's enough money at stake, one of his lawyers will find something else to sue for.
If that were the case, they would’ve done it already. Even asking the Supreme Court to review it was a Hail Mary.
Next time you’ll see this come up is when someone corner crosses in one of the states not cover under this ruling and that goes to court.
A precedent has been set.

The only way I see the Supreme Court getting involved in this is if another case from another District gets an opposite ruling (which, given the precedent, seems unlikely).

Part of me wonders if Fred took this issue this far because he's not a complete dick? If he never would have pushed this issue, corner crossing would still be illegal, so he actually helped make it legal and screwed other landowners who previously were treating the landlocked as their own.

Like, he secretly wanted the unwashed masses to have access to public parcels inside other ranches like his?

Having met him in person, I'll just confirm that he's a complete dick. I surmise with his wealth, he's so used to having things go his way.

Here's a story from an archery club acquaintance I'll call 'Jim' that worked as a mechanic at the local airport when Fred's jet landed a few years back (before the corner crossing issue). Fred flew to Wyoming in the fall, and Jim noticed that a few fellas in the flight crew had bow cases. Jim excitedly went up and asked them if they were going to hunt elk mountain, and the crew replied "No, the boss doesn't let us hunt his property."

I'm guessing the statistical probability of that being equal to a giant meteor hitting the Earth tomorrow.

The most likely is he thought $$$ could buy anything. Like a failure of assumptions, "past performance does not equal future returns."

Got it. He is that big of a dick, to take this case this far and lose, creating a huge win for us and in the process evaporating hundreds of millions of "value" from the percieved ownership landlocked parcels once had. I would be furious with him if I owned land with public corners. That land was worth a lot more when it was questionable to cross corners.

Yeah, all he had to do was tell those guys to keep it on the down low and let them do it. It most likely would have ended there. Im sure all the other landowners in the same situation are not his friends now.

FWIW, I looked at OK today quickly and I could only identify two corners in the entire state, and looks like there may be an easement/road on one of them. Lots of school land corners, but those are mostly leased up by farmers/ranchers anyway. I didn't scan the entire state, just the WMA's I know of. There may be more...lol.

Seriously, dude? He took it this far because he’s a billionaire and used that money and influence to convince some equally dumb$hit sheriff, deputy, and county attorney to go out there and cite the hunters with a bogus trespassing charge.
After they all got embarrassed for that. He went after them civilly.
There’s a lot of stupidity in this one and it’s just not Fred even though he’s taking most of the heat.
