A ballot initiative to codify the right to hunt and fish in Colorado has been introduced and has passed Title Board approval, meaning it is now at the signature collection stage.

The initiative has been introduced by the International Order of T. Roosevelt (IOTR), who has worked to push for Right to Hunt & Fish bills nationwide.

Cam someone please explain exactly how CPW would be able to designate a species as nongame and therefore unharvestable?

Terribly worded amendment imo

Reading the text of the initiative, it says that the right to hunt and fish "...shall apply to all species of fish and wildlife managed by the state." Not a lawyer but it sounds like CPW would be required to manage any species not under federal protection as a game species. Maybe there could be a loophole like "We are only going to offer one cougar tag on a one-day season for the whole state this year" but overall, it seems like this amendment is pretty solid.

The same way they currently do.

What are your concerns with the language? I have to disagree, I think it’s worded appropriately. This has to be simple enough for non hunters to quickly understand on the ballot, and not so aggressive that they are turned off by it.

The goal is to “preserve the future of hunting and fishing opportunities for all species statewide,” and I think it accomplishes that.
