Ballot Initiative to neutralize CPW and eliminate hunting/fishing in Colorado

I moved away from Colorado a few years ago because of stuff like this but not just the hunting stuff. With all the great things to offer it just isn't a place I wanted to raise a family. I struggled with the internal battle of stay and fight or leave. I ended up leaving.

Starting to ask this question myself. Love the state, hate 90% of the policy and the direction in which this place is continuing to head

So that’s the new angle for the CATs lunatics. Create this new commission where they get to decide what species are endangered and therefor can’t be hunted. I’ve got a feeling it’s eerily similar to what was included in prop 127..
Yep. They tried the legislature. Failed. They tried the CPW Commission. Failed. They tried at the ballot box w/Prop 127. Failed. So now they want to circumvent and basically eliminate CPW from the equation. WECC will consist of folks from universities and NGOs. No representatives for hunters, anglers, agriculture, outdoor recreation, parks, etc. This time they are going for it all. The ability to designate protected wildlife corridors and protected “keystone” species, eliminating hunting by area and/or species.

Right back into the trenches I can’t imagine that it will pass… but we will fight this bullchit again.

Yes and based on that response from the legislative council the proponents have lots of work to do on their proposal before it has any chance of making it on the ballot. Just like with Prop 127, CRWM will need to raise money early to fight it at title board and CO Supreme Court.

Donate early and often if you are so inclined and you care about the future of hunting and wildlife management in Colorado!

So not only will this circumvent CPW authority and render them subordinate to a commission of environmental activists accountable to no stakeholders, it will also strip away the rights of private property owners to make their own decisions regarding land use. That same unelected, unappointed activist commission will be able to levy penalties and restrictions on ag producers and property owners in general.

There’s just no way this will pass. It’s pure lunacy, I’d be disappointed if it even gets enough signatures to make it to the ballot

The response I received from my state senator about it was:

"The senator read your letter and asked me to respond. Firstly, sorry for the delayed response. I believe it became a potential ballot initiative after its companion legislation HB25-1258 was postponed indefinitely on March 6th, and It's listed as withdrawn prior to the R & C hearing. So I believe it's dead and gone. However, there is the possibility that they are trying to get it on the ballot by petition in which case it would have to get a certain number of signatures."

IMO the danger isn't in this passing but in them testing the waters to figure out what part of it or version of it they can get to pass. How to change the language to be more palatable to urban voters. The next version will be much more streamlined.
Yep probing the defenses so to say…

If they were to get their way and setup the WECC I could see them use animals they determine endangered or protected to close our OHV trails as well. If that happens, I’m out.

Absolutely. Lots of different demographics stand to lose a lot if this is allowed to pass: hunters, anglers, trappers, livestock producers, oil/gas, outdoor recreation, developers, OHV, etc.

It’s absolutely mind boggling and infuriating that they are allowed to submit this bullsh*t every single year. There needs to be some kind of moratorium after a ballot initiative fails so they can’t just keep throwing sh*t at the wall.
That is exactly why people need to vote at both state and federal levels, write letters and encourage young sportsmen to be.

What ever happened to Calirado?

More articles on this ballot proposal. The most pressing threat to sportsmen and agriculture that we have seen to date.

GoHunt had Dan on their podcast and talked about this.

Starting my monthly to CRWM again. I would urge others to do the same. Remember if every hunter in the US gave 1 dollar we could smash these groups into oblivion. So don’t think a 5 dollar month donation is worthless.

I have been very critical of nonresidents not stepping up to help other states but Dan said 82% of donations against prop 127 were from nonresidents. I will eat my crow. Let’s do that again.

Also, remember the companies that put their money where their month was last time. Love them or hate them GoHunt really stepped up. Support them and let them know why.
