Colorado corner crossing bill proposed

So in the proposal a landowner cannot erect a fence or barrier taller than 54 inches at the corner... and wheelchairs are the only mechanical vehicle allowed over. I get that they are trying not to exclude the handicapped from access but there would have to be 40 foot long ramps on either side of a 54 inch fence to get wheelchairs across...😅

You really hate private landowner ship eh? Do you think "millions of dollars of lands" equals that landowner being wealthy? I'm guessing you are one of the people that with prices going up out west just think landowners getting priced out should just sell and buy a cheaper ranch somewhere else if they want to keep ranching.

Some people open their mouth and prove how clueless they are.
Technically, yes, millions of dollars of land does indeed make them wealthy. Whether they choose to cash out those assets is another story.

I'm all for landowners keeping their land for as long as they want and I'm glad we have ranchers. I'm sure most of them, at least the ones I've met, are great people and try to be good stewards of the land as much as they can. They tend to love this country and all that it originally stood for, and to that they are my kind of people.

However, keeping the public out of public land seems to go against many of the views I believe ranchers stand for. Like I said up above, a little compromise on both sides will have benefits for everyone and I don't see how that is a bad thing. I don't think any hunter wants to take lands away from ranchers or cause any problems, we just want access to the lands we pay for. I don't see how anyone can see that as anything but the right thing to do.

This might the only good change coming out of the shift in demographics in CO. This could really gain support with everyone but land owners.

Very curious to see how this plays out. It could be a model for the west along with a bounty of opportunity for the public. I would like to see the ranchers be compensated for offsetting their fence line in the reduction of property tax paid for the square footage lost and no liability if someone was to get hurt on said square footage for access.

I’m not 100 percent clear on this but if private property owners are concerned about the liability of public crossing the corner of private and public, I’m curious to know what there thought is on the liability of one of there cattle stomping a patron out on public land??? I know we all ovoid conflict with cattle but Iv had a few instances where beef and I were not friends.

Again, this bill would NOT REQUIRE landowners to move any fences or restrict them from building a fence right up to the corner.

if landowners are running livestock on public land they are paying WAY more then you are to use it.

With that said thats not what this thread is about, its about a land grab and if there are better access solutions. There are many better options, from micro gates, z/c gaps, A frame ladders etc.
Livestock AUM rates are super low. They are not paying way more to lease it for livestock.

So you are in favor of taking land away from a land owner? Cause that is what you are doing. Also what about the fences that are already established. Going to pay for the land owner to move them back 5ft? As long as the fence is on the landowners property there should be ZERO limit as to distance from adjoining properties.
This guy sounds like a landowner in CO.

Can some one explain to me how the public can safely corner cross if private property holders don’t move their current fencing back ?

Regardless what the dollar amount is, they are actually paying more then any other individual using that land. Im not saying it gives them exclusivity, but Bob the hunter or hiker pays less to use that land then a leaser. Federal Government entities are using his lease fees to offset costs incurred due to your use.

thats only point I’m making. they pay to use, we dont to any where close to same degree

Likely not in that particular way.

Kind of like how wheelchairs are the only wheeled vehicle not restricted from use in designated wilderness, but the ADA does not require wilderness trails accommodate wheelchairs.

EDIT: svivian and I were thinking alike…

Is there opportunity for access in wilderness areas?

Corner crossing land owners cross pines cattle fences with ladders is a whole lot different than access in a wilderness area.

Some one will have to clarify for me..

Is corner crossing or landlocked public land worse?

And how many occurrences ...occur...for each, legally speaking?

I mean, max, what are we talking for stepping over, waving a boot over a pin?

And What’s next- high-water mark/canoe trespass for the Supreme court?

This is actuarial in my book.

Edit-id wager I have far more 'tresspassers' on my properties in a given year than the amount of corner crossing 'tresspassers' seeing a courtroom/receiving a ticket.

I'd wager neighbor kids 'tresspass' backyards ^nth more than this I'd an 'issue'.

Pick up the phone, ring a doorbell, send a piece of mail. If you get a no, find another way. Whip out them SeekOutside Cimarrons and some cord, parachute it. Try the next corner. Try a water source. JUST DONT TRIP OVER THE STICK ON THE GROUND.

be courteous, be respectful. Find alternate ways. Or, don't tie your shoe lace. And don't forget to pick up the trash that just blew away.

It’s not apples and oranges here. If access is allowed by corner crossing which we all support then expecting safe passage isnt a stretch of the imagination. The first thing one of these Sliders is gonna do when the fall off there 6 ft ladder crossin cattle man joes cross tie is gonna get a lawyer and we all know it. Not to mention most these sliders have no business climbing an ladder…

If this is gonna go down, land owners should not be liable for personal or property damage along with property tax from the square footage of lost land and should be reimbursed for wages and time to alter there fences.
