Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

Hey, that’s one reason we do this in the spring is to give ourselves time to shoot in new equipment.
We’ll be watching for your post in the challenge. Good luck.
For sure! That’s why I like signing up for a TAC shoot as well. Between the CBC and TAC, it forces me to get my butt in gear. Some of those prizes in the CBC are way too good not to give it a shot!

Shot the compound for the first time since September yesterday. Been shooting the recurve a lot more but not with broadheads yet. Time to expedite that!

Your next pic better look like this lol.

Barely in the vitals like yesterday. But we don’t get extra credit for hitting the bull either.

Broadhead question for Robby.
Trying to decide between Sevr Hybrid and my old G5 Montec.
I see that Sevr can be shot with the screw in for practice mode. What about the practice G5 Montec head? It's just like the broadhead, just duller. Can it be used?

Done with turkey hunting so I switched mods today and trying some new arrows. Got it semi sighted in tonight, will have it good to go by the challenge. Thinking 60 yds MER since I wouldn’t take a shot over that in any hunting situation.

No you can't shoot practice heads in the cold bow challenge.

You can use the sevr simply because it's the actual broadhead with the blades locked.

guys above answered but since you asked me directly, I'll elaborate a bit.

It's good question and we've gone back and forth on this over the years.

We decided (and a lot of members agreed) you have to shoot what you would shoot an animal with.

SEVR is a special case because it allows you to do both but we found there were so many other broadhead types out there it was hard to know so we went with "whatever you shoot the animal with".

make sense?

Yessir! Had a new baby last week so haven’t been shooting much the last few days but definitely going to make a point to do the cold bow challenge. Think I’ve done all since 2019 maybe?
all right man! good to have you for like 7 years!

and congrats on the baby. When mine were first coming, that was when I let archery go and I shouldn't have. I had it in my mind if I couldn't give it 100% it wasn't worth it. I should have just not worried about it, shot when I could and hunt when I could...

With so many broadheads that makes sense.
Finalizing my new arrow, sight and draw weight setup this week. Hopefully the rain holds off some so I can get some Sevr testing in.

My SEVRs have always been right there with my FPs

Are you asking about the pre-season montec, or the Montec BMP?

There's no reason you shouldn't be able to use the preseason.

Edit, guess I should have read further.

@robby denning @realunlucky ,y'all realize some of these practice heads are exactly the same, just not sharpened right? There's several companies offer their heads without sharpening, I wouldn't think that would be an issue. They aren't different heads made "to fly like" the broadheads.

Maybe it's mudding the waters, but if can stick a fastner in a sevr to eliminate the o-ring, should be able to use a dull broadhead.

I was referring to the preseason, not the BMP.
I'm going to use the Sevr, but I appreciate Robby's response and everyone taking the time to pull this off every year.
And the sponsors!

The evolution practice head is essentially a dull fixed blade. I assume that is acceptable robby denning ?

You have to shoot the same broadhead you’ll be hunting with.

If it’s a practice-broadhead it doesn’t count.
You can shoot a dull broadhead if you want, but a practice head is a practice head.
