Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

You have to shoot the same broadhead you’ll be hunting with.

If it’s a practice-broadhead it doesn’t count.
You can shoot a dull broadhead if you want, but a practice head is a practice head.

Hmmm ok. I also hunt with iron wills in my quiver so I will use those for this year.

If the mods are willing to take participant input for next year, I would vote that you reconsider the criteria for what a practice head is.

Broadheads are very expensive and if a Rokslide is shooting something like an evolution Hyde into a target for a week they’ll be having to replace the blades and also tear up the target. I get that some broadheads like Sevr have practice modes, but that’s creating a bias towards those heads and discouraging Roksliders from using fantastic options like an Evolution Hyde, or requiring us to dip into our hunting budgets to pay for replacement blades.

If a practice head has protruding blades beyond a certain length (say maybe 3/4”) accurately representing the expandable when it is in flight, that could be a criteria. Or having a list of approved practice heads? Just a thought.

I’ve missed the last couple of years chasing bears but should get to fit it in this year. Thinking 80 yard MER for compound and 30 yard MER for recurve. I just need to cut a section of fence out and talk to the neighbors 😂

This'll be my first year of the CBC. Thinking 60 yard MER and beast broadheads. I've got to get my bow tuned back to hunting arrows first though. I've got it set up to shoot my light weight standard diameter TAC arrows right now.

I think a broadhead that isn't sharpened is just that, a dull broadhead.

Lots of companies make "practice heads" that aren't an actual broadhead. Sometimes the lines aren't even the same as the real broadheads, I think that's what Rokslider's were saying weren't acceptable. Rage made them, Grim Reaper makes them, I use to get practice blades for Spitfires, I know G5 makes a weird practice point with no blades, but matches the weight profile. Those shouldn't count.

Something that is the exact same as the actual broadhead should be ok.

But I'll get off my soap box now. Been a pretty good Karen (Kyle?) Lately.

Rules are simple for everyone to understand and simple to enforce equally, which by default keeps the challenge going year after year.

This challenge with an infinite amount of equipment and distance variables with potentially way over 300 entries that all have to be individually reviewed makes standardization a key element of the behind the scenes administration of the cold bow challenge.

With the questions going around, don't know if they are that simple to understand.

I just dug out these to illustrate what I was talking about, this isn't a response to @realunlucky , just for clarification of what I was speaking of, and what I don't think should count.

At the end of the day… it’s the honor system.

We trust that you’ll be honest in the field while hunting and follow the regs.

In the same way, we trust that everyone will follow the CBC rules.
We do our best to keep it honest, but at the end of the day, it’s your honor.

The cost of being entered into the random drawing for all these amazing prizes is only a single broadhead. It's pretty inconsequential, especially considering you can use last seasons broadhead that you already ran through a buck or bull.

If the expectation of CBC is to prepare for hunting, then the shooters should be using that same hunting equipment for the challenge. Otherwise, you're not truly verifying your Maximum Effective Range and missing a huge component of the challenge.

For some reason I had my dates wrong so I started today. Good thing I get a do over 😂
I forgot I had the old sight tape on my bow and dialed to 70. I felt like I made a perfect shot but my new bow is a fair amount faster. I should have dialed 66-67 for a 70 yard shot.
Maybe I can get the right tape on for next Saturday

premature launch lol!

#Legendary

I'd like to see guys shooting mechanicals, halve their distance and shoot bare shafts before/after the challenge starts.

Lol. you can run and judge that challenge.

I want to see who is using them as a crutch, or who is still fully tuning flight.
I’m feeling called out here. How do I report people?😀.

Fair perspective though. I’m considering going away from mechanical heads when I get a new bow. Pretty happy with my current setup but if I’m changing my bow then I should consider all aspects.

What broadhead do you use?
