Right, but theoretically it could be an entirely different "style" of challenge for an additional entry that mimics a more common hunting situation. IE, on video, you start with pack on and rifle in hand as if walking in the field. Timer set at 30 seconds. Target at 300-400ish. You need to range the target, load the gun, build a seated/kneeling position supported by only pack or trekking poles, and hit the target twice before timer. Must use the same gun as the one chosen for the MER cold bore challenge (this could produce amazing video for the guys shooting the big boomers).

The cold bore challenge as it is will be awesome regardless, and I plan to participate.
It was discussed originally when the idea came about.

I mean I guess I could shoot 400 at a 10” plate standing off a tripod, or whatever other obstacles I can find. 400 would likely be beyond my max on a deer from standing, with a light gun.

I guess we will have to wait for the official rules.

Unfortunately there’s not much for distance shooting around my parts. Most of my distance shooting is done at matches. Which is good in its own regard

They will be posted about a week or so before the start date to give me more time to finalize everything.
Gotcha. So just to see if I'm on the right track...

Take a couple cold bore shots at my MER at a 10 inch gong, take a pic, and post it here, and repeat 5x? Is this all on the honor system or do you want a witness or have it all on video or?

edit. Maybe I should just shut up and wait for official instruction.

It will be one cold bore shot per day for two days with no practice before either shot or on days in between.

A picture or a video of the hits (or misses) is what you'll post in the thread. Witnesses won't be required.

Going to your head was a joke. Sorry guys, did not mean to derail this. I really do appreciate you doing this, I think it's awesome, just was wondering if there was a way I can participate. There isnt. I will enjoy following along and I may just try it with my 22 or at shorter range with a hunting rifle just becasue I'm here for the same reasons, and since there isnt any other option. Keep doing what you're doing, I appreciate it.
be good to have you in the stands. If something changes, hop in!

I would be far more impressed with someone sticking bullets in there at 300 yards sitting on their butt with no sticks or support than with a 600yard prone bipod and rear bag. I shot a deer last season cross-legged unsupported at ~125yds and it was the hardest shot on game I have taken.

Agreed, something I practice as well. Atleast the way I hunt, shots like that happen.

Guess we will have to wait for the rules, I’ll make it work if I can.

I’m just excited to see the sub moa all day guys shooting past 1000

me too, but as it's MER, if someone has been posting on the interwebs they're comfy to 500, we'd assume they take that shot from the most stable position possible, not from his butt.

Max shooting distance available to me is 250 yards. 75 minute drive one-way to do that.

Carrying a shooting stick these days and can quickly incorporate into a seated shooting position - on butt, elbows on knees, rifle on stick. How I shot my muley in 2019 (220 yds).

Not stretching to testing anything tho. This is what I do (200-250 yds) to prep for my hunts and will be prepping this year's antelope hunt, starting before too long. If I could physically shoot to 400 at a range, I'd practice out to 400. We do what is available...

Gotta convert all the western states to straight-walled cartridges. Then the critters will have a chance. ;)

Oh well. At least I also get a 2-month long mud season, black flies AND mosquitos, no pesky elk, mule deer, pronghorn or other obnoxious cervids, and no less than 16 days of sunshine a year! Eat your heart out... :ROFLMAO:
We used to get that in New England and just in time for trout and landlocked salmon fishing.

The 16 days of sun has me stumped.

If anyone in Grand Junction will be joining this challenge holler at me. Would be fun to get together on this event to shoot since we are blessed with a variety of areas to shoot long range.

Im in but who do we send proof to for over 600yards ?

It's the honor system.
