That's enough to make ones head spin. Sounds about like trying to herd cats.Public comment going now
(These are summaries and won’t be completely accurate)
So far, 1 hunter pushing to go back to the old DOW model, separating Parks
2 ladies pushing for the end of Prarie Dog hunting on public land
1 lady pushing for the fur ban
1 guy pushing back on the fur ban
1 guy pushing for stricter enforcement of illegal use of snare traps
1 guy pushing back on Citizens Petitions to manage wildlife, and slamming any strategic plan that doesn’t mention word “hunt”
@bayoublaster7527 testified against the fur ban with some good facts/stats.and fighting against “bans” in place of adaptive wildlife management. And mentioned the MeatEater pushback episode
1 lady saying she pays taxes so has the right to ask for ban on fur sales, and for zero trapping, and change word “take” to killing.
1 lady testifying for the fur ban and hunters are not entitled to hunting & trapping.
(If it seems we’re outnumbered so far, you’re not wrong)
…
Met @ckleeves & buddy and Ryan from Seek Outside (@RyanSeek43 is that you?) in audience. Thanks for coming guys.
1 lady arguing against hunting any wildlife and pushing for fur ban
1 lady pushing for fur ban- mentioned Emerick (sp?) and pushing against Conservation by killing animals. Only non-lethal methods to resolve wolf conflicts
1 lady fly fisherman fighting against use of bait fish
1 guy saying killing is not Conservation then incoherent support of that statement
1 guy in support managing wolves to reduce livestock conflict. Mentioned proposition 114?
1 lady enviro scientist 25 years working with Prarie Dogs. Concerned with declining numbers (92% since 1900s) and against shooting them
1 hunter pushing against fur ban being a one-size-fits-all petition (ban). Wants scientific management. Bans weaken conservation
1 rancher reminding all ranchers provide habitat and seeing hundreds of elk no longer migrating to high country. Against the non consumptive users having too much sway on commission
1 endangered species expert, promoting Born to be Wild license plates which raised over 1 million $, saying this proves statewide
support for wolf restoration.
1 lady saying taking $ out of wildlife will prevent extinction. Said our insect population is down 45% so birds don’t have enough food and we’ve lost a 40% of mammals since 1970
Tim Emery Co wildlife Federation:
“Please let the wildlife professionals influence your decisions”
1 guy stating CPW doesn’t support fur ban because science isn’t there for a ban.
1 young man, “Wyatt, 16 years old) He no longer trusts commission to make good decisions because they don’t listen to CPW professionals. Stop the agendas and petitions that go against wildlife peofessionals in CPW
Colorado Resident Hunter Association: prioritize the resident hunter of the state. Residents are the beneficiary of the public trust (implying non-residents are not—that would be a federal issue)
1 lady meetings have violated meeting laws. Something about suicide related to fur take? (Talked too fast to understand more.)
1 lady asking commission if they trust their wildlife professionals or do they cherry-pick the science to support agendas?
1 lady concerned with 8 billion people in world. Commissioners need a chart showing a biomass of animals/humans and that wildlife is only 4%
1 guy (Paul from Leadville) thanking several commissioners voting no at March meeting and riled on remaining commissioners that their yes votes only showed their agendas, and ignores the Science.
1 guy reminding Commission that hunters are not only conserving game, but non-game animals. Quit adding wolves, we’ve lost 50% of transplants, do allow migration of wolves into Co
1 lady livestock producer who doesn’t hunt but supports hunters. Pushed for a flexible compensation plan for landowners affected by wolves. And for commissioners to understand petitions only narrowly represent Colorado residents.
1 lady reminding much of budget comes from nonresident elk hunters and to replace them would require a $430 resident elk license
1 guy saying Commssion is distracted and not helping the animals that actually need help. Get back to the Science of wildlife management.
1 guy asking “why habitat stamp $ going to road maintenance” and why do Commissioners not respond to email comments. And hunters pay way more than off-Road users
1 lady thanking Commissioners for advancing fur ban, and she against Prairie dog hunting and the showing of them being blown apart on social media.
1 guy promoting fur ban and more study on fur bearers to have better data. Only wants non-lethal methods to resolve predator conflicts.
1 lady saying fur not needed. We now have better coats now. Fur bearers should be given same priority as deer & elk
1 lady on zoom, Wildlife should be managed for nonconsumptove users only. Don’t kill beavers, Prarie dogs etc.
1 hunter on zoom, seen a lot in 33 years of hunting, says integrity of commission is compromised when trying to mange for agendas, not wildlife science.
1 guy “don’t shoot Prarie dogs on public land”. Guys having contests on blowing up animals to be left to rot with lead in the carcass. NRA is a complicit because they protect gun magazines for more rounds.
1 lady zoom. Social Science in wildlife management makes better decisions, but who are the wildlife stakeholders ? She supports ban on fur sales. Need more science based management
1 guy on zoom “nothing lasts forever, change is inevitable”. Thank you for protecting beavers & Prarie dogs. Mother Nature will come back with a pitchfork.
Hey man, you are welcome and great to meet you and your very well spoken son (love his buck in the avatar!). Let’s keep up the fight.@bayoublaster7527 Thanks for the inspiring message you delivered at the Circle the Wagons Social and your (as always) succinct testimony during public comment.
@robby denning Thanks for making the long haul from Idaho to support us as we work constantly to push back against the anti hunting agenda. And a special thanks for the large sponsorship of the CRWM event! It was a pleasure to meet you. Can you believe the little kid in my avatar is the same one who spoke yesterday?
Thanks to all who showed up and made comment or just to help show that we care.
This fight isn't just for Colorado. They've got a favorable (for now) administration to ram their agendas through here. If they're successful here, they'll use the precedent and momentum to upend other Western states next. All support is needed and appreciated!
Those of you who are following (especally CO sportsmen and women) please consider attending the meeting in Ignacio, CO in July (16&17). https://cpw.state.co.us/committees/...ings/parks-and-wildlife-commission-meeting-49
With Tuchton at the helm, they'll be looking to get as much through as possible. I will be unable to attend this one but I hope someone else can take my place. We've gotta keep our foot on the gas! Please consider putting in for a few days off and doing what you can to hold the commission accountable.
For what it's worth it's at a casino and (if you've never been to a commissioner's meeting) you'll get to meet lots of really good people representing our way of life.
