I have heard some good things about the Amazon tipi tents. I am looking for something for backpacking with a stove hole. Anyone have experiance with these tents? I am really curious about how good they are - and how tough. I KNOW they are not like a Kifaru but they also cost 1/5 as much.

I do not know which one but I have had a couple guys specifically mention they are a really good bang for your buck. Above is one I am looking at.

I bought that tent in October for a November deer hunt here in Idaho. It worked very well, but does weigh more than the premium brands. Having a wood stove was awesome. My hunting buddy and me both tagged out and the tent did play a good part of being able to stay out longer and hunt harder.

my buddy bought one and we used it as a base camp hang out for truck camping recently. Not sure his model was light enough to backpack with. I can tell you we got the tent up to 80 degrees with the stove burning. plenty of space for 3 guys to sit around in with some gear. For sleeping I'd only fit 2 guys and the stove. I believe his was a 6 or 8 man. Again not to sure on specifics but seemed worth a trial.

Thanks, I did not pull the trigger. After careful thought I want this solely for tough hunts in cold, not the time to trust something cheap. Lot's of reviews mentioned holes from stove embers. That said I definitely think they are good deal for the price.

I tried one just to see. the bottom hem was way too tight. there was no way to get the sides even close to tight enough to use with the guyouts it had and it was around 6" off the ground. no flap or way to stake it down besides the long loops that allowed it to ride up off the ground.

I set it up in the yard, messed with it for 5 minutes, rolled it up and sent it back.

GOOD LUCK!

I bought a One Tigris smokey hut a while back. Pretty much same specs as the cimarron if I remember right. I have some pics of it set up when I first bought it. I think I paid $120. I ordered stove jack material and made my own because it didnt come with one. Seems OK but it hasn't been through anything crazy.

I ordered 2 at Black Friday. The OneTigris Smokey Hut and a larger one. Sent the larger one back along with the ground tarp because it weighed more than published.

Haven't opened the SmokeyHut yet but for $110 I don’t think I can go wrong. I have the updated version which comes with a stove jack and half ground tarp.

Would it sleep 3? Or survive an alaska hunt?
Two will fit comfortably on the included half tarp. I think 3 would be fine with a stove but would be sleeping on bare ground or need another piece of tarp/tyvek which could be done easily.

I would want to test it at home in the wind and rain before trusting it on an extended, presumably wet, trip to Alaska but that is just my bias against Chyna products. I will also likely spray some of that water repellent spray on a day a little warmer this spring before really trying out.

For long weekends in usually dry SW Montana I think it will be fine. One thing I really like is the extended snow skirt to hopefully mitigate wind coming in.

I have been using a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 3 and this rifle season and I didn’t use the inner tent to save weight but there is about 4” gap that the tent normally covers along the bottom that really sucks when it’s windy, but I suppose the other option is soaked and frozen condensation on the inside idk.

I still think I prefer a free standing tent with ground tarp. I always struggle pounding stakes in it seems there’s at least two that always hit a rock and am not sold on the extra hassle of a stove which I still need to get I guess but I’m generally a fair weather long weekend hunter. If the rain fly for this tent extended down I think it would be perfect and is probably close to half the weight of the Smoky Hut, not as spacious though.

We've got an 8 person off amazon.

Hasn't been through overly crazy weather and is twice the size you mentioned, but we've had it out a half dozen times and never had any issues. Ridiculous amount of room for 3 people. Pretty sure it's already paid for itself being split three ways.
