2026 Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

I screwed my post up with dates. We shot the 13th and 14th of June like my videos captions say. I waited so long to post, I was thinking we were out for Fathers day, but it was the previous weekend.

I'm training thru the suck. Still on seated supported, making slight improvements, pushing myself to stick with it.

Biggest hurdle is to just "break good shots" now.

Shot 11 felt great. It was great.

Ever since my shoulder injury and surgery, my flinch comes back so regularly that I have to constantly worry about it if I shoot more than about five shots from a long action cartridge. That’s one reason I have sold or am selling many of my medium or large bore rifles.

Whenever I shoot my heavier recoiling rifles, such as my 9.3x62, for load development or sighting in, I stick all the rounds in my pocket with two snap caps, then load the magazine with my eyes shut. If you can’t get snap caps that feel close enough, making a couple of dummy rounds works well.

Good luck working back to where you want to be!

My trick on ball and dummy is to load my mags when I finish shooting. Then when I go to shoot the next day my brain isn't even trying to figure it out.

My issue on this cold bore challenge, other than an elevation tweak, seems to be failure to command the gun and break good shots.

It's as tho I've discovered I'm relying on a couple warm up shots to sync into the activity. Phasing that out.
