We've killed a ton of animals with 260rem, noting past 260 yards though. I put together a small rifle in 260 for my nieces and nephews to hunt with. The oldest niece killed a doe for her first big game animal with a 123AH at about 2800 from a 16" barrel. It wasn't a great shot placement, but the projectile really did a great job. I shot a shorter than ears pronghorn at 260 yards right in the heart, he looked up from eating, took a couple steps like nothing happened and fell over dead, it was an interesting kill.

Has anyone seen what a 130tmk does at much higher impact velocities? Say someone loaded them up in a 6.5-300 Weatherby and then ended up with a short range shot?

My daughter shot her first elk with her grandpa’s 260 Ackley. Shot was 250ish, 130 vldh, I have no idea what mv or impact velocity was. I saw the impact and heard the report of the hit, immediately told her to get another one in her. The cow took maybe 3 steps, stood there for 10-15 secs, fell over and died.

Entrance, there was no exit. The bullet caught back of lungs and liver. She was slightly quartered to.

I second guessed myself/Kestrel on wind, held on the liver, figuring it’d get pushed into the vitals, but liver works for me too. First round hit liver. She went down hard, but head was up, so I put another one in her quartering away. Ribs on the way in, blew up the far side humerus. Both bullets were found under the far side hide. (First 147s I’ve recovered in several animals taken.) I’ll post remaining bullet weights when I get time.

Yessir! They always leave a very good wound channel. And yet the shank/base appear to be quite tough. I think that’s why, IME, the vast majority have exited into hillsides.

475 yds 147eldm 2282 impact velocity. 127gr retained weight. Right behind the shoulder, didn't take a step but was still standing so I sent a 2nd shot as as soon as that shot broke the deer started to fall. 2nd round landed near the spine.



582 yards 143 eldx behind the shoulder 2180 impact velocity. For some reason the bullets did not perform well. Went back to eldm/berger after this. Deer never moved from where it was originally shot but I had 2 1" exit holes side by side and I shot it a 3rd time for it to finally expire. Didn't like that the bullets were passing through. I prefer 1 shot kills and the eldm and berger 156 have been that way for me. Or, like the situation above. Deer is basically dead as the 2nd shot leaves the rifle. Impact velocities have varied from 2800 to 2240 with great success on other deer.

One of these was taken by a friend with a 22 creed and a 75gr. Rest were 156 berger. 2800-2400 impact velocity. Absolutely devastating but didn't take detailed photos. I'll take more detailed photos this year to add to the list here.

3 bucks down last weekend, 6.5CM Tikka, 17” barrel, Hornady 140 eld-m.

Bucks were shot at 43, 155, and 170 yards. One DRT, one made in 20 yards, one made it 10 yards. All passed through.

Photo shown was the furthest shot, heart was mush, MV approx. 2,275. Other photo is the exit.
