115 DTAC vs Black Bear - DTAC Failure?

I ordered 500 of the 'deep cut' variant of this bullet. I spend a lot of time chasing moose, sheep, and mule deer. Figured I'd try them at moose later on.

If the 'bloodshot' isn't from direct bullet damage, and the lungs don't look like they got hit by a match bullet, I don't know where the rest of it went? Only recovered the 25gr jacket. Maybe it split in two and that was the other hole. Not sure.

It's a nice round to shoot and flies flat.
I shot an antelope last year at 750 yards and the nose ringed dtac split in two. I had an exit behind the off side shoulder then found the rest of the bullet in the on side hind quarter.

3200fps impact velocity from anything other than a swift/partition, solid copper (Barnes/mc guire) is going to be very similar to what you got this time.

You used a bullet that's meant to fly a long ass ways and instead smashed it into a bear in your lap.

Going to be awkward seeing an animal and backing up instead of closing in.. might need to change it up. Part of why I wanted to test it before sheep season.
Still a dead bear with good meat.

Or use the accuracy potential. If a critter is in your lap, neck it or high shoulder and use the shock to dump the spinal cord.

Yeah that's a valid point, I've always been a 'boiler room' shooter. I know without lungs it can only go so far. I'll see if the wife or a friend wants to use this rifle on another bear to see, too many of them up here anyways.
