6.5 creed vs 6.5 prc for anything from white tail to moose?

To the OP. Where in Texas? PM me and you can come shoot my surpressed 6.5CM’s. I have a few to chose from Tikka 16” Rokstock 8.5lbs
Or Alamo Precision 20” proof, Manners. 9.5lbs

You get 20 rounds for free after that it’s $1 per
You can shoot to 300 yards at my place all private.

I have shot ALOT of 6.5 PRC love the round ! Barrel life means nothing to me. I never drive down the highway and stress the life on my tires , So I refuse to reload and stress barrel life !

I dare say barrel life on a PRC is half of the 6.5 Creed , But i promise you if you can afford 1800-2000 rounds of 6.5 PRC ammo you can afford a new barrel.

(( All that said )) I would way sooner shoot my Creed in today’s world it’s probably one of the cheapest rifles to shoot and reload for and it’s simply just fun.

I have seen 8 or 9 elk shot with 143 gr ELDX out of a PRC.

And 6 shot with a 143 gr ELDX creed.

I seen zero real difference out to 600.
And only shot two elk at more extreme ranges with the PRC I love PRC. But can’t say it’s worth it over 6.5 CM

I kind of wonder why I have my PRC. It really has no advantage over my 6 or 6.5 creed at any range I can actually shoot. I guess its just my "maybe someday" gun.

I am still holding onto a few 308’s. I believe it is related to the same reason teenagers carry Magnum Trojans in their wallet. You never know when you might need it.

I decided to go from a 6.5 Creed to a 6.5 PRC. .... and a 223.

The 223 is the new main hunting rifle for 80% of everything. The PRC is solely to throw copper solids downrange at 3000fps (and those few places where you can't hunt with a centerfire 22).

It's all about use case, and I found the Creed to be bigger than I wanted for most things and not fast enough for others.

IMO its pretty simple and all depends on barrel length and shot distance.

If someone is planning on a 22-24" barrel, Creed is enough, will do the job, and theres no reason for the extra recoil of the PRC unless very long shots are planned.....which I have personal feelings on but thats for each to decide for themselves and the cartridge doesnt matter IMO.

If someone wants a <18" barrel, then Creed is likely too anemic, especially for long shots, so PRC makes more sense.

If hand-loading, then you can potentially bring the Creed up in velocity to enough even with the short barrel.

I've said this before on other similar threads. I went with PRC because it was on sell and helps the Fudds I hunt with relax.

And I agree with the comment above regarding barrel length and velocity expectations.

I’ve been down a fairly long road (feels like it anyways) trying to decide on a new “back country rifle”. I’ve decided on a Seekins ph3. Now my only question is, 6.5 creed or 6.5 prc? A little back ground, I’m a reloader and really don’t have any interest in buying any factory ammo that isn’t 9mm or 223s for mag dumping purposes. The cost between the 2 seem to be about $0.15-$0.20 more for the prc in extra powder. Not really a huge deal for me when looking at probably less than 200 shots a year. I also plan on putting a suppressor on either one. I want this gun for anything from white tail to moose (realistically probably elk and bear being my biggest animals) and to replace my current unbraked, unsuppressed 270 win. My biggest concerns are as follows

1. Barrel life. While I’ll probably be at around 200 rounds per year, and the extra 20 cents per round isn’t a big deal, the $500+ replacement barrel from Seekins is if I’m replacing it every few years. What’s the average barrel life guys are seeing out of each cartridge?
2. Recoil. I’m used to a 270 with nothing on the end of it. I don’t have a flinch from it but I certainly can’t spot my shots. 6.5 creed isn’t too bad with a bare muzzle, and I figure pretty light suppressed. How’s the 6.5 prc stack up?
3. Resale. To me everything is for sale and everything has a price, unless it’s inherited. Has anyone had either one of these cartridges for sale and had a bunch of people say “man if it was a 6.5 creed instead of prc id buy it” or vise versa? I like to always know “if I need to I can get rid of this quickly”

Thanks for any help.
I have both .270 Win. and 6.5 PRC. Using all-,copper handloads, they are like twin sisters. With B.C.s of .463 and .468 and velocities around 3000 f/s, they are ballistic duplicates of each other. To answer your question: I wouldn't even consider the 6.5 Creed, especially since you have no recoil problem with your 270 and are planning to use a suppressor on your new rifle. As for barrel wear, if you are only shooting 200 rounds a year, the PRC should last at least 20 years. Both rifles should re-sell easily with an edge to the Creed. Good luck!
